I called this morning about my 2 barrells and they said they were out of the 44 mag. barrells . They were supposed to have been there in Feb. but they have not showed up yet. Should I wait or have them put a 45 70 on it?     Digger

Ditchdigger, you have to make that decision but I would NOT (edit added!!) give up my 45-70 for any other barrel....<><....

MSP, did you mean you would not give up your 45-70 barrel?

Same deal here Digger. I called last week, they said they didn't have any but had been promised they would get them.  :?

:D , H&R Bang and all others, YES!!! I meant to say I would NOT give up my 45-70 barrel for any other. I sent the message on 3/1 and was lucky to get into the site, I saw the error and thought I had corrected it to show that I LIKE my 45-70 barrel but obviously the edit did not go through (it is edited now, thanks). Try the 45-70 barrel, it is a great shooting caliber, will take anything on this continent and is fun and easy to handload and shoot. Recoil is much less than my 12 Gauge Handi...<><....

If I get the 45 70 barrell will the 300 grs. shoot well at about 15 to 1800?I think I will give them a few more days, and then if they are not in I'll have the 45 70 put on.  The 300gr. at 1800 should have the recoil of 445 with the same weight bullet at the same speed, or will it?  Digger

ditchdigger,
never having fired a 445 I cannot say for sure but, I'd venture a guess the recoil will be the same.  The felt pulse from a 45-70 might even be less because of greater case capacity, thus more room to expand and a less "sharp" recoil.

The Buffalo Classic I had really shot the 300's very well and it liked the 400gr speer VERY well.  Less than 3/4" inch at 100yds with tang sight.  Not sure if I could have done better with a scope but I plan on adding a 45-70 barrel to my Ultra this summer.

I don't think you'll regret that barrel.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!
