Please note law passed in 2008.

Now veterans as well as active duty, in uniform or not..may render a hand salute whenever the national anthem is played.
I am posting this to inform any who are not aware of the changes.

I wouldn't think "anybody" would need a federal mandate for permission to salute our flag.
Many Law Enforcement officers have done this for decades.  ??

The military has strict rules for behavior in vs out of uniform. Failure to follow those rules could result in disciplinary action. If I recall correctly, until this change salutes were only to be rendered when in uniform; when out of uniform one covered ones heart with one's hand.

Law enforcement is completely different, they are not subject to military rules and regulations.

That's the way I see it too!  So often, until I learned of this law, I so wanted to render a hand salute at that time...now we are welcome to do so !

I’m glad to hear of this.  I’ve wanted to salute many times and now I will.
