National Geographic, Bonnie and Clyde!
« on: December 04, 2020, 05:18:00 PM »
How many of you people watch a show and pick apart the guns. In the first 15 minutes I picked out 2 mistakes. A Colt Python, first made in 1955, and a Mossberg 500 not made until 1960. The story is good,  but the errors in guns really entertain me.

I don't watch cop shows because I have no imagination, and I catch myself picking them apart. Linda watches her favorite shows recorded when I'm gone, or outside.

When I was a kid my favorite TV show was Emergency. Not too long ago I was flipping through the channels and it was on, I hadn't seen it since I was a kid. My girlfriend who is an emergency room nurse and also worked as a paramedic on an ambulance in her younger days started watching it with me, she said she never watched is as a kid. She picked the whole show apart and showed me all the BS that was in it. Talk about ruining my childhood.  ;D

I usually notice the guns but also notice the cars even more so. I hate when they screw up the cars in period movies and documentaries.

I'm not as familiar with cars, but I know many people who pick out the cars.

The gun mistakes irritates me but so does the motorcycle mistakes.  Like bikes squealing tires or having the wrong engine sounds.  Movies even a worse track record getting the motorcycle stuff wrong than car and gun stuff.

I get semi aggravated when there's
a vehicle throwing up dust on a
loose dirt or on a muddy road, and the
sound effects are rubber squealing
like on a hard surface.
Then I have to think, it's just a show
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I was watching an old Gunsmoke episode not long ago , in the background there was a jet leaving a vapor trail across the sky .

Forget the pistols , Those BAR s  got my attention .

I think you will find, that Clyde did have a BAR!  The Bar was introduced the same year as the Ma Deuce (.50 cal MG)..1918.   As I recall from the stories, they did have one..

Picture me watching a movie that was about as good as Holly-weird can do, except for it's technical mistakes.
I'm speaking of the 1965 issue of the "Battle of the Bulge"..where the US troops were using M41 Walker Bulldog, light recon tanks in place of Sherman M4s.
That wasn't bad enough, the Germans were using Patton M47 tanks, the very ones I trained in at Ft Knox!  ....And I didn't train in any "King Tiger" !  Both the M41 and the M47 were developed after WW2.

However, shortly after seeing that movie on post while serving in the Army in Germany, a friend and I had the pleasing experience of touring in the area in Germany and  Belgium ..going over the places where the battle was fought!

No King Tiger...M47 Patton..  (2 minutes video)

"They have the guns and therefore we are for peace and for reformation through the ballot. When we have the guns, then it will be through the bullet"      (Saul Alinsky) ...hero of the left..

A BAR was also used by lawmen to kill Bonnie and Clyde. It's behind glass in a museum along with their shot up car.

Anyone that expects TV or movies to get everything right is living in la-la land. "Nothing much" to "some" is the best they ever do and it isn't confined to guns and cars. Both mediums are directed at people much younger than you and I and the makers know they either have no knowledge or just don't care if anything is period correct. I just gloss over the mistakes I see unless I want to annoy my wife or oldest grandson.

Two rut dirt road when folks were using horse drawn wagons back then.
..

When a team of horses, or mules is used to pull a wagon, they pretty much walk in front of the wheels.
We had 2 rut dirt lanes on our farm, where nothing but 3 wheel tractors, and our team pulled our wagons.

So that's accurate? With tire tracks on it in 1875? Just sayin.

I watch such shows for the entertainment value first, and hope for good history second.
While it is some time hard to ignore some screw ups, to sit and look for that can often be nit-picking and ruin the atmosphere.

There are sites on line that are dedicated to picking out such screw ups and I have to admit I will occasionally look at that as they seem to thrive on hitting star wars movies which I have zero fondness for.

You added more criteria.

I responded two your second post.

Now your adding "still more criteria" that changes nothing about "reality".

Which is where I'm returning to. This is getting silly, and I knew better.
