NEED 445 SUPER MAG LOADING DATA
« on: March 02, 2004, 03:21:54 AM »
I'm going to start loading for the 445 and need data for using Hodgdon H-110. I was reading on Steve's Reloading site and he listed 29 grains as a starting load for a 240 grain bullet and 33 grains as a max load. Is this right. I have already been to the Hodgdon site and they do not list any data for the 445. Any info would be appreciated.

BIGBOREFAN,

Data can be a bit difficult to find for that cartridge.  I have a copy of the data from the 445 Super Mag article in the March/April 1989 American Handgunner and it lists from 31.0 to 38.0 grains of H-110 for a 240 Speer bullet.  I would be damn careful with charges of over 35 grains myself!!!  So you appear to be in the ballpark with what Steve’s Pages are indicating.  I have used his pages and have always been successful.

You might also try the website      WWW.DANWESSONFIREARMS.COM

They used to have reloading data for the 445 SM

I have a Contender in that cartridge.  Never really got the M.O.A. accuracy I expected to get.  I think there are better powders than H-110.  I used AA-1680, WC-680 (surplus powder), and IMR-4227.  Accurate Arms has data for the AA-1680.  Good-luck with you Super Mag…BCB

Thanks BCB. I'm going to try H-110 because I have that on hand right know. I've been loading for the 357 max so I'm going to try it for the 445. If I can not exceptable accuracy then I plan on moveing to the AA-1680. I will check out the Dan Wesson sight. Once again thanks for the reply.

BIGBOREFAN,

Here's another link to a good article and some reloading data.  What are you shooting the 445 SM in?
