I have a #2 Blake and Lamb single spring hanging in my shop for the last twenty years and every year I say I'm gonna get a license and try for a mink, but I'd have to bend over to set it and that would be painful.   ;D

It's dyed, waxed and ready to go.  ;D

If you trap, I wish you were nearby, because the beavers are tearing up my separate acreage down by the creek !
I don't trap, and my regular trapper has had a kidney replaced, so he won't be doing it this year.
I did get a line on another trapper, however.

I haven't done what I'd intended to,
but I have been working on the
nuisance squirrels with a couple
of 110 sets. I've done ok with that
and got a small possum in one of
them. It didn't finish it, but it didn't
get away with my trap either. A
bit of wire saved me there.

That's one of the two best lessons
I've learned from the people at GB.
Anchor the trap as if the biggest
varmint in the state might get in it,
and swivel swivel swivel

Well another lesson learned again
I'd set out a 160 BG in a bucket set
just out in back with some homemade
fish bait.  I've caught dozens with the
same setup. Just as I'd finished my
apple and turned to stick my PM
pill in my mouth, I heard the 160 pop
and the chain rattle.
Got ready and went out to take it off
and rebait and reset. I thought to
take a picture of it and got it compressed
and ready to redo and my possum
was playing possum and ran off in the
dark to who knows where. Pretty tough
animal to take that 160 snapping down.
I had just got through saying " Self,  you
know a-well you need to give that possum
a couple of taps with that hammer "
Need to listen to myself more often.
Oh well.  . . It'll be back
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Well, my house sold 48 hours into the listing, so my trapping procrastination will continue, as we've gotta prepare for an almost 400 mile move.

My teen kids are trapping, have done pretty well.  They have 15 coons, about 40 rats, 1 beaver and 2 big male yotes for the season.  Impressed with the yotes, they take some trickery to get them around here....

Ever skinned a possum? As ugly as they are alive, disgusting is not a strong enough word for a naked possum. Did I mention how greasy it was?

Yes, possums and coons are
like trying to skin with bloody
crisco all over your hands.
This one has a date with a
couple of walmart sacks and
a big grey plastic bin.
If I were starving, the story
might end differently.

Well looks like I came up with
a different possum. I had just
glanced real quick earlier and saw that
nekkid tail and grey fur.
The one that I ended up with is
twice as big as the one I boo booed
and let loose.  10 some odd pounds
on the fish scale. Buncha fleas.
Glad to have that nasty sucker gone

Possums are repulsive.. even though I named my shop after one,(Possum Trot forge). They are ugly, their fur is just about the rattiest looking stuff in the woods..
  I used to shoot them, but I am not so quick to do so anymore...  Here's why;

It all depends..if those 3 blades of grass in line with the wind, or standing crossways, defying the blast !  ;)  ;D

The big possum I caught the other
night was covered with fleas. I
was ecstatic to get that thing gone
I imagine it's been at the ladies house
that keeps the food out 24/7 for the
stray cats that roam around here.
She has the exterminators over
often to spray for fleas and roaches.
All these pinheads around here can't
seem to understand that if there's
something for the pests to eat,
they'll make theirselves at home
and more will be drawn in

Stray cats around here go to the train station. Possums and such get a ride and release to the country.

Anything unlucky enough to get
in a trap here gets new clothes
made of recycled walmart sacks
and gets to stay in the big
gray plastic executive hotel outside
until Thursday when the hotel
shuttle comes by

If it's anywhere near quanah
or shamrock there'll be every
manner of something to be
trapping all year. The pelts
may be worth messing with
there unlike these ratty furs
here.

We have fine coon around here, usually very plush fur, but it seems the demand is so low, that many coon hunters have gotten rid of their dogs and dropped out.
I got a Christmas card from my regular beaver trapper, so I am guessing he is still trapping, I'll have to check.

Yeah, coons up here are only going for $3-8 a piece.  Song dogs are about the only thing worth much, running $25-40.  My kid got a mink and it went for $3... I told him when I trapped in the 80's we would get +$40 for a nice buck mink, with inflation that's probably around a c-note...
