THIS TIME, he wants a "voter referendum" and let the voters decide if we break away, and become a Republic again.
Sounds good to me, I'll vote for that and the separation from that 24 trillion and growing national debt.

Separate from this "political correctness" gone wild.
Separate from the politics of the voting North where its "don't do as I do, do as I tell you".

As Biederman says, the United States government does not represent what Texas is all about.
I don't think Abraham Biden and Klamidia Harris would let us leave without a fight, but it would be one of the few fights in the last 75 years worth fighting.

Texas Republican GOP Chairman Allen West agrees, saying states that agree with, and abide by, the United States Constitution should ban together, and separate from those states that do not.

SCOTUS has fallen in the trash bin of political cowardice, and can never be trusted again.

As a Texas expat doing time in Rhode Island, I'm all for it - secede, union of states, something.

I'd actually like Texas to call for an article V convention, and move to dissolve the social pact between the states. It would dissolve Fed Bank, Fed Reserve, and every Fed Agency with it, to include Soc Sec. IRS, BATF, FBI, DOJ, national debt, all treaties ... gone. Probably have to figure out how to distribute the military, particularly the nukes. Requires 38 states to support it - might be tight. This would free up all the states, territories, district, protectorates to then re-form a new social contract with whomever they wish. In which case I think Texas might find 20-30 other likeminded states willing to just return to the original constitution and start over. My guess is if you got 38 states willing to dissolve, everyone at that point would be more willing to come to the table and rather than dissolve, talk about reform.

Fundamental to the Constitution is the notion that the republic is a social contract between states at their consent ... consent of the governed is a foundational principle of our nation. Therefore, if a state no longer consents to the contract, they have a fundamental right ... historical precedent be damned ... to secede. All power not expressly given to the federal government falls to the state and to the people. The constitution may have a mechanism for allowing a state to join the compact, but since it does not empower the federal government with a means for a state to leave, that power then falls to the state itself. Pretty simple really - a state cannot be held against their consent.

Texas can legally divide itself into 5 states without US approval, which would give them 10 senators, and the same # of Representatives.

What you said is correct. Texas came into the Union as a Republic, with two options. That it could secede if things didn't work out, or it could divide itself into 5 separate states with all the amenities of the other states.

Did Texas retain these rights after seceding from the union to join the confederacy? There are those that argue these rights were given up on re-admittance to the union after the civil war. If Texas actually makes this attempt it will wind up for the courts to decide unless it comes to open warfare. After this last week it's obvious where the courts side when it comes to the union and the states. States rights aren't in high regard right up through the SCOTUS.

When Texas voted to secede Governor Sam Houston refused the secession. He was promptly removed from office, and Texas joined the Confederacy.

I don't think the rules changed when Texas re-entered the Union as that was never taught in Texas History classes in the Texas school system.

I'm aware of all that as I grew up in Texas and went through the school system there. I agree that nothing was taught about the rule being changed but I have seen this subject brought up since I attended school. I have never tried to run anything down about it as I never thought that it would be a consideration until fairly recently. I have been saying we have been on a slippery slope to becoming a socialist/communist country for sometime now. I just didn't understand how great the slope was going to increase it's angle downward or how quickly we would reach that point. I misjudged the lengths the radical liberals would go to and the fact that the law has stood by and let them get away with it. It's a sad time for a once great country that so many are doing their best to turn into just another third world piece of crap.

Yep, Democrats AND Republicans have sold us out, a little at a time. The Republicans took the lobbyists money just like the Democrats did, and they were all afraid they'd rat each other out.

Republicans are dirty, but not dirty enough to throw out the Democrats.

But it still ain't over till Hiden Joe Biden is sworn in.

Here is a little about the states rights to secede from the union that I found. It gives an idea of how courts will see the issue.

Current Supreme Court precedent, in Texas v. White, holds that the states cannot secede from the union by an act of the state. More recently, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia stated, "If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede."

A little more searching says the only way is for armed rebellion and being able to overcome the union that will try to prevent it from happening.

I consider all the talk of Texas seceding just that, talk. It sounds good to the masses but when it comes down to put up or shut it will go away like it always has.

If they secede doesn't that mean that Texas +4 have NO SENATORS IN THE USA, but 10 in their "new country"

I saw where there is an increase of Americans filling out the paperwork to immigrate to a few other countries.
Or at least become a legal resident. Iceland has put a hold on it, but Finnland is still accepting applications.
Greenland is another one but its still under Danish rule where it gets most of its money. The largely forgotten virgin isles is a US territory and its population is increasing rapidly.

The Democrats haven't even mentioned them becoming a state. Presidential Republic. Under the Dept. of the interior. That's one of the places that Rush said he would retire in.
