They stapled my incision  closed after my hip replacement , gave me a pair of tweezers and sent me home said I could start pulling them out in a couple days .

You gotta be tougher than me to pull them yourself. It wasn't a big deal when the doctor took them out of my shoulder, but I'd not wanna do it myself.

I didnt like the idea pulling them either , considering there were about 30 of them .   Looking back it was probably a cost cutting measure by Healthsouth & that crook Richard Scrushy .

I was told back them by my doctor to steer clear of the arthoscopic way because they dont open up the pinching of nerves enough and its likely to come back.
If he had the arthroscopic surgery for that, the recovery will be fairly quick.  I had mine done back in the mid 90's and because of my strange physiology they couldn't get in that way and had to do it the old fashioned way.  I was awake for all that and the turnicate on my upper arm was killing me by the time they got done...  Unfortunately I had only scheduled a week off and I had to be back at work a week later.

my last back surgery was to remove a spinal stimulator that was no longer working. they had to make an insision in my upper but cheek where it was at and another high up on my spine about 8 inches long to pull the leads out. Went back to the doctor 2 weeks later to have the staples pulled out. On the way home i still felt itchy (if youve had staples in the back you know what i mean) Got home took a shower and the wife came in the bathroom looked at me and said they only pulled the bottom ones out. Then it dawned on me she just had me pull my shirt up a bit. Would have had to take it off to get them all. Wife said shed make me an opiontment in the morning to go back. I said hell with that. Im not letting them charge me for another office visit. Went and got a pair of needle nose pliers and had her pull them out. they dont really hurt comming out. More like a little pinch. But Bill either you had a better doctor then me or are a tough sob. Both of my hands hurt like crap for about a week and were sore for months. But then i wont do narcotics and relied on Tylenol. Constipation is worse then pain to me.

Pain got to me last night, finally took a Tylenol 4. I'm floating this morning and bumping into things like I was a bumper pool ball. I didn't get up until 9:30. Will go back to bed as soon as I eat a little breakfast, likely will be dark when I get up again. Pain was just too much for me last night. That was the first of those pills in over a week. Hopefully the last I will need.

Doc did open surgery for this, 5 stitches, dunno if they will fall out on their own or if he will remove when I go back on the 29th.

I hated those pain pills also, but mine were a lot stronger than T4. When they kicked in it was only lights out.

Got the basal cell carcinoma cut out today, at the VA hospital in Buffalo..100 mile round trip. The 50 return miles were a bit worse than the first 50.  :D
The shots were nasty..on the right side of the neck, down close to the shoulder.  Stitches pulled quite hard..as if the Doc were sewing leather.
I was scheduled to have the surgery at 12:45 PM, but got a call earlier in the week to show at 09:30 this morning..no problem, but I wondered...
My surgeon was a youngish Doc (maybe 35?).  Found in conversation, while he was working on me, that he has a deer camp out nearer where I live, and was anxious to finish the season there.
He did harvest a piebald doe earlier..showed me a photo.

Stitches he put in will dissolve, no bandage needed...just glue.  Don't shower on the glue, or mess with with it, and it will fall off as needed.
Two nurses and the Doc..all nice folks, and that includes the cheerful, little black receptionist for the department, she was fun too!  Brightened an otherwise, dismal situation.
