Good luck, Graybeard. My wife had both of hers done years ago. No more pain at all since. Her doctor told her he could send her to therapy for a couple of weeks after her first but that he had another method that worked just as well and was free. It was pretty simple too. Just washing dishes by hand and it worked for her both times.

A good friend of mine had it done last year and had to have it redone but they got it right the second time and he says it is good as new now.

good luck with it Bill. I had both of mine done 6 months apart about 15 years ago. The right was the toughest only because you have to learn to wipe your but with your left hand.

If he had the arthroscopic surgery for that, the recovery will be fairly quick.  I had mine done back in the mid 90's and because of my strange physiology they couldn't get in that way and had to do it the old fashioned way.  I was awake for all that and the turnicate on my upper arm was killing me by the time they got done...  Unfortunately I had only scheduled a week off and I had to be back at work a week later.

Hmmm, I’ve been wiping my butt with my left hand since I was potty trained.
And I use that hand to write, eat, shoot, etc.
I don’t find it that difficult. ;D

Mine was open surgery, not arthroscopic. He told me 6 stitches I think.

I have a huge mass of bandage all wrapped by Ace bandage looking stuff wrapped so tightly it is affecting circulation. Tonight I have a lot of swelling of fingers and what of hand that isn't wrapped which isn't much. I can take it off around noon tomorrow. I hope swelling goes down when all that comes off.

Pain was minimal but with the swelling the fingers are in a lot of pain tonight. Little to no pain from the incision.

I'm still one handed and will be for quite awhile I think so am typing with one finger and it is slow.

When I had mine, I was back to my regular duties at Microsoft in 3 weeks.  I was up for some special training that would get me a promotion and I would have gone to that if I had to crawl to get there.  The original plan was to work a s-load of overtime, then take a few weeks off to recuperate but the plan didn't go exactly that way.

How I typed was with a pencil in my right hand, I would wrap my middle finger around it while otherwise mostly holding a fist.   I'd hold the pencil straight up and down and use the eraser to work the keyboard.  It's harder to describe than to do but it worked, for me anyway.

That didn't hurt but using a mouse right handed did.  I had to use mice at work but I bought a touch pad like laptops have today to use on my desktop PC at home.  I got pretty good with it but playing solitaire was kind of complected.

This morning the swelling of my fingers and hand right below them is still there but the pain mostly is gone.

I get to take the bandage off and see it in about 3 more hours. Then I'll just have a large Band-Aid on it.

Big bandage is off. My hand now really does look like it was smashed with sledge hammer. It is bruised and colorful from down on the wrist, thru the entire palm into lower fingers and half way up the thumb. Yeah it HURTS! Swelling is mostly gone from fingers but back of hand still swelled up. Fingers of left hand don’t bend much and hurts to try. Left hand pretty much useless still. Tried to type this with both hands, that was an immediate no go, can't use left fingers.

I pulled the bandage before my daily nap today around 46-47 hours following surgery. I now have just large Band-Aid over it. He used 5 stitches to close the cut. It actually hurts more now than it did the morning after surgery and fingers are less flexible than then as well. Gonna be a few more days before pain leaves and finger flexibility returns.
