Today's singers..
« on: January 11, 2021, 02:30:38 AM »
Outside of gospel music, I don't follow much music at all.  ...Bit I have noticed that there seems to be a dearth of good bass singers in today's secular music.
In fact, from what I hear..I doubt there are many baritones.
Are there no songs being written for them..or do people not like those kind of voices.

When I say bass voices, I think of this man now gone, who used to accompany Elvis in his music. This is a long video, but you need only give it about 3 minutes..to catch the gravity.

Good bassmen are a thing of the past unfortunately. The singer in that video is excellent. I always like Melvin Franklin from the Temptations for a bass singer.

My favorite baritone is Don Fardon. He had a hit song in 1968 called "Indian Reservation" before the Paul Revere version. Before that he was in an English "mod rock" band called The Sorrows. I know you're not much of a rocker IG so here's more of a ballad from them:

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."

---- William Pitt (the Younger), Speech in the House of Commons, November 18, 1783

Elvis was normally backed up by the Jordanaires on his gospel music.
They were a great quartet.
Like you I really enjoy good gospel, and, I used to love the singing in Church, but that has been ruined by 7-11 songs.
Somehow I think GOD cringes when he hears those.
We were warned against vain repetitions and to me 7-11 songs are just that.
I didn’t know that J.D. was in the record books.
He was good.

And, I think Elvis was one of the best gospel soloists that ever was.
