Go to the Kim Komando website and see what she suggests for a safe free antivirus program. She has a nationally syndicated radio program and is really savvy on computer questions.

Those e-mails about Norton and McAfee running out are SPAM, do not click the links in them. I get several of both daily even tho I don't use either. They aren't even from either company but from someone else. Those e-mails are actually from: SharpEar@acronkian.com

Avast is what I use and is available free. I use the paid version but my wife and youngest son use the free version.

I was using paid, for years,  Eset, which worked fine but am  trying others.
I used Megabytes, which computer pages seem to think is the best out there, and it cleaned a bunch of stuff the day I loaded it.
I was using the paid trial when that ran out they switch to the free version.

BILL. Then you think I'm likely still covered?? I like Norton, they have gotten rid of a bunch of stuff. I had avast for many years, but they kept faking viruses trying to sign up for the pay ones. CHARLIE.  ::) ::)

Prolly Charlie. You'll need to look at the e-mail address it came from to be sure. If you don't know any other way just click to reply to it and see where that e-mail would go to. If it's that one I listed it's not real and not from Norton.

I'm getting 10-12 or more e-mails a day that look to be from Norton and McAfee telling me my virus protection has lapsed and I need to renew. I've had neither in maybe 15 years.

I run the Linux Ubuntu operating system on my desktop, I don't even run any type of anti virus software. I've never had any virus issues with Linux and it's free so you can't beat the price. Almost all of the viruses out there are written for windows.

I just bought a laptop for a college course I'm taking and unfortunately I have to run windows for some of the school software so I'll probably run avast once my Mcafee runs out.

We’re getting messages that to keep our software we need to pay $1500 one time fee. If we don’t want to keep it call them and supply all our information and a dna sample...

I just signed up for avast free and at the end they wanted my credit card # and billing address, I Xed it out. When I got back on I got a                 thing saying click to complete so I did. Don't know for sure whether I'm covered by anybody.  CHARLIE >:( >:(

What site are you going to, to try your anti-virus company?
OFTEN you have to go lower on a page to load the FREE version , they do not want to give it for free so you have to look for that part of the page.
I often put best free virus company on a search engine , and NOT just Google , and then check the list.

I put AVIRA on one of my laptops yesterday and getting it on was Chinese Fire Drill; if I did not say yes to more information it did not load.
Once I yes for more information the link to load came up instantly.
Some of the progtams, when you do the free trial of the paid version , will automatically simply switch to the free version when the trial ends, others, simply cut you off and keep telling you you are not covered.
My Eset when the paid version died DID leave me the free version which still did eliminate attacks on my laptop.
I have started using Yahoo for some  such things and I like that a lot better than any other, but only for that purpose.
The new site that replaces Internet Explore sucks just as bad as IE.

I was always afraid of Linux too but I had a beater computer that wasn't doing anything so I put Linux on it. Once I got used to it I much prefer it to windows. I use Ubuntu 20.04, it works great. There's good support for Linux online, I've always been able to find answers if I couldn't figure something out.
