:? Hi guys

I was wondering if some of you can help me out.

Got a 1895 oberndorf mauser set in a mannlicher style stock that has no markings except the serial number and manufacturers marks.

What Gives.

I bought a Oberndorf made in 1918 in .257 Roberts as my first big game gun back in 1968. I had the bold bent to allow scope mounting, refinished the stock to a hand-rubbed, boiled lindseed oil stock with a 4x Weaver. It was slick untill unemployment ran out and the gun ...........sorry, about to cry here. :(

The rifle in question is not in millitary form. But now that you mention the swedes.....
 :oops:
The rifle, is set in a SAKO mannlicher stlye stock( Buttpad has Sako on it.). I didn't believe this was a sako gun though. The stock seems to have way too much wood on it; ya know its kinda clunky and big.  I thought maybe someone built the gun up and added a Sako buttpad or something along those lines; and my bluebook makes no reference to this being offered by Sako.

What caliber would you guys think this is.
The ser# is 115xx.

You didn't say what caliber it is?? Is it 7MM?? Most M1895's I have seen were 7MM most likey its not a swede its a M1895 oberndorf/DWM Mauser.

The barrel on this gun is the stock barrel though.

So you're saying its 7x57 more than likley.

Turfman;
 Some of these M1895 7MM's were reworked to 308win too it was a common thing to do. You will have to check it out. Most of the military guns have no markings of calibers that i have seen. (the only ones so far is the SKS is marked 7.62X39, spanish mauser 7.92, the french mas 7.5 example) Not too many come marked and i'm not sure why i wish they all were marked so things were easy to identify we never can tell if the barrel was changed to a different caliber.
