what a weird winter
« on: January 12, 2021, 09:30:46 PM »
Usually have 3 feet of snow in the yard by now and theres lucky if theres 5 inchs on the flat right now and all the roads are bare. Ive seen slow winters before but never a year with less snow then this one.

Same here, we only have about 4 inches of snow on the ground. We usually have a few feet by now. We had a few feet in December but the Christmas day tropical storm washed it all away.

I would have been glad for you to have received the few inches of snow we got and still retain most of. The warm-up is on today and tomorrow though and most of it except in shady spots will be gone.

Dee's snowflakes worry me the most as they are coming from two directions for me.

Same here, just 2 or 3 dustings. According to a local predicter we should of had 19 in so far, with over 40 for the winter. Even the temps are way off. CHARLIE  :D :D

Not all recent winters have been especially mild.  For our area, except for this year, we have had plenty of snow...and it was about 3-4 years ago we had an especially cold winter, with a couple weeks, bouncing around between -30 & -35 F.

Now that I’m old I hate winter.
The highs are in the forties and I have to bundle up like an Eskimo to keep from freezing to death between here and the mailbox.
If it wasn’t for all the queers in Key West I’d move down there.

yup winter used to be my favorite season. I lived to race and ride snowmobiles. But as the body gave out that ended for the most part and winters became long and boring. Only upside to them and why i still stick them out is all the tourists have gone back south. Our town is actually fairly peaceful this time of year. Ya we get the snowmobilers but they mostly stick to the motels the woods and the bars. The fruit cup tourists from the south migrate to where its warm. Takes a bit to much hardiness to live a winter up here. It sure does weed out the weak. Guess in a way this is a blessing as we dont even have snowmobilers invading yet.

I remember that winter. We had a couple weeks where the high temps never got above 0.

Cockeyed winter is really here today, snowing right now after the -- rim shot -- rain.
Low of 30, this sucks the bag as we used to say.
Will not use snow blower as the slop down now is too heavy and it would just be a waste of gasoline.
My car is in the garage getting body work and the loaner is a fwd crapwagon where the check engine light is always on with God only knows what tires.

At least twenty below is the norm here, lacking that pissant warm winter; if I remember correctly 2014 was a nippy winter up here.

Yeah, when I was younger I could hardly wait for the hunting seasons to start, and I spent every spare minute in the woods till the rabbit and squirrel seasons ended on Feb. 28.
Then I'd put my rifle away and pick up a fishin pole.
Of course Illinois winters aren't as brutal as yours, but I remember having to knock on the back door with my foot because my hands were about frozen and my mom would let me in and lean my rifle or shotgun in the corner for me to come back later and unload them and clean them good.
