To all church-goers who have "issues" with "politics in the pulpit": sanctity of life (esp in the womb!) is not a political issue; it is a Biblical principle. Homosexuality was a Biblical issue thousands of years before America even existed! It is not a political issue, but a Biblical one. Working for a living (as opposed to welfare) is not a political issue; it is a Bible principle. Freedom to worship and having in God we trust on our money & the Ten Commandments in the courthouse was dealt with in the Bible, as in "Blessed is the nation whose God is The Lord." Not political-BIBLICAL!
Our right to defend our homes is patterned throughout Scripture! Not political...Biblical!
... Yes we are supposed to pray for our leaders...however, some of the harshest words in literature were spoken by Jesus Christ to His "leaders"-the Pharisees & Sanhedrin-when they were not operating in integrity or wisdom! Praying for them does not mean passivity, or silence! The reason so many absurdly unbiblical policies and laws pollute our nation now is that the church, by and large, has been afraid to speak out firmly against them.
Don't confuse love with naive passiveness! Don't be duped into believing that if we refuse to engage in the battle, it will "all work out okay"! God is in control of the whole thing-but within that, He gives us a brain and a mouth and the freedom to speak up and demand change!! "Getting your praise on" is fine- but there is also a place and time to "get your ARMOR on" and fight the good fight!! Ignoring what is happening in our nation will not make it better - there is no nobility in being a naive, passive, uninvolved church mouse. "The men of Issachar understood the times and knew what Israel should do."
So should the church today! And... Joshua was on his face praying one day... God said to him "why are you on your face praying? GET UP AND MOVE FORWARD!" James says "Faith without works is dead." Sometimes we must engage in the debate! Lovingly, yes, but firmly as well!!! If we are silent and unwilling to engage, then we deserve what we get. Don't hyper spiritualize what is really plain old common sense. Speak up and defend your freedoms - or lose them.
