Ammo shortage EXplained..
« on: January 21, 2021, 09:38:50 AM »
Just in case, somebody is dazzled.."ammo" means ammunition, in the hunter's & shooter's colloquialism (jargon).

Here, the president of Federal, CCI, Speer and Remington ammo, etc...speaks upon the issue..

Since I can’t see UTube I need the short version as well. But it’s unlikely we will get any help on that.

I've known what the problem
was for years.
Seen it some years ago.
Main example is folks offering
boxes of  .22 ammo that should
sell for $30.00 or less priced at
$80.00 + -
Then the folks that line up to pay
the gouge price encourage that
kind of behavior even more, and
the circle continues to go round
and round and round and round
etc.  etc.

Oh well.  . .
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

In my area, I used to speak of
those that lined up at Academy
and at Walmart on a daily basis
and would buy their limit ( if
there was a limit) for resale.
I got called a liar and told I was
full of BS and a lot worse.
Now, some of those same
people speak of the same thing
I did back then, people lining up
day after day,  etc.
If you look for it, you can see it.
It happens daily
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I see it this way...  The president of Federal, CCI, Speer and Remington ammo comes out and says they are running just as hard as current production and the Covid crap allows.  Steve Hornady has said basically said the same thing.

If you recall, they didn't quit making toilet paper and paper towels a year ago..people simply panicked, and went nuts, buying the stuff up!

Fast forward a few months... Once it was affirmed that the election was stolen, observing the sponsored riots in Seattle, portland etc.,..people panicked over their own protection...and went on a buying binge.

I spoke with the young man behind the Walmart gun counter just yesterday.  He said they are getting the same amount of ammo in as ever.  Some associates bring out the ammo as soon as it arrives, others wait until later, still others may wait until the following day.
What is to keep some associates from calling their brother, brother-in-law and cousins, telling them when to be at their ammo counter?  ...And of course, with the present panic, there is financial opportunity for the unscrupulous.
  Just human nature..

It's cyclical just like anything, there have been several cycles of ammo shortages since ZerObama got in office.  Fear drives it and as long as the Government doesn't do what everyone fears, it will start showing up on shelves again.  What's different this go around is that it's basically all calibers that are being scooped up, prior to this it was 223, 22lr and pistol ammo.   I'm just glad I have what I need and that I reload.  I wouldn't call me a hoarder, but did stock up prior to the Obama years and here and there since, when reasonable prices were available.  I've never had to pay over normal retail for a single round or bullet.

He says in the video that they have sold more hunting ammo than any other year, due to the increase of hunters. I really find that hard to believe.  Actually hunting license sales nation wide have declined each of the last 5 years, and from 1969 to 1996 there were more sales each year than we have had in 2020. So I don't buy the idea that more hunting ammo was sold because covid bought out more hunters. I think the hunting ammo being sold was people were buying ammo for any gun they had, once all the civil unrest started.  Especially since handgun ammo became scarce.  A box of 30-06 or 270 ammo was a lot better than no ammo for the new 45 or 9mm pistols that people just bought.

I feel sure ammo would be plentiful right now had Trump remained in office .  And for the next 4 years I think if you can  find  your specific brand ,you'll pay at least a 100% markup on it .

I think you have it right for the most part.  If gun grabbers had not been elected, I doubt there would have been any shortages...simply because folks would not feel their rights and freedom were threatened.
Of course, with the leftist/Marxists burning , murdering and looting across the nation, simply placed an exclamation mark upon the thoughts of millions of decent people, when they came to the conclusion that .."I must arm myself !"
Don't be surprised that Federal has sold more hunting ammo than ever..since hunting ammo is usually darn good defensive ammo..especially oif it's all that is available!  Then there are so many new gun owners...and they all want to stock up...from a zero available rounds level !
Our LGS, right up at the corner, Mike is still selling guns whenever he can get them...and he furnishes 100 rounds to each new handgun buyer.
Ammo will come back, and when it does, I suggest you do as I have always done.  When yo stop by any place where ammo is sold..buy a couple boxes and store them away, because someday they may really clamp down.

I agree. There's always going to be some panic buying AND selling in an election year, but the rioting pushed the panic into high gear. I'd also imagine the past shortages may have gotten more people into reloading, causing a bigger demand for reloading components as well. Scares me to see what people are paying for reloading components and equipment on GunBroker. I'm predicting at LEAST 2 years of these shortages, if not more.

Ye, if trump were re-elected, I doubt there would have been any shortage at all !
