This Do In Remembrance Of Me,
« on: January 24, 2021, 07:43:05 AM »
Luke Chapter 22 verse 19.
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them,  saying, this is my body which is given for you: this do IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

NOWHERE: does it say; EAT ME.

Verse 20. Likewise the cup after supper, saying,  This cup is the New Testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

REPRESENTATIONAL: Christ is using "the cup" as a representation of The New Covenant" for Salvation which is HIS SACRIFICE OF, His willingness to sacrifice His life (body), and shedding His blood in the  process.

NOWHERE: does He say literally "drink my blood".

Celebrating, or taking "Communion" is IN REMEMBRANCE OF CHRISTS' SACRIFICE in order to usher in "The New Covenant of, and for, Salvation, and has nothing to do with drinking blood, or eating flesh, human, godly, or otherwise.

Key word on the whole act of Communion is: "REMEMBRANCE"

I am not attacking, hating, or arguing, or debating with anybody. I don't  care if you're catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, or a monk in a monastery.

If your wine or grape juice tastes like blood? See a dentist, you have gum disease.

If your bread, or wafer tastes like raw flesh? See a doctor, you have serious problems.

If both check out ok, but the tastes are still there? Consider a psychologist, your delusional.

FYI, This is the way I interpret it, and all personal attacks toward me will be referred to Mr GBO himself.

17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

#29 tells it like it is.  JESUS referred to it as the fruit of the vine.

And, JESUS at one time turned himself into a vine.
And, JESUS at one time turned himself into a door.
And, JESUS at one time turned himself into the sun.
And, JESUS at one time turned himself into a rock.

Do you suppose that some things may have been "symbolic??"

And, when my wife and I take communion, why doesn't our cracker and juice turn into flesh and blood??
I've watched a certain church on TV give out communion crackers and even after the priest places the cracker on their tongues, it stays a cracker.  But I've never seen that particular religion take a drink of wine or juice.  I guess the priest wants to keep all that wine to himself.  ;D

You are starting with the sophomoric insults again .
The Roman Catholic church has for a long time now offered both wine and bread to parishioners.
I put the below last time you attacked the RC denomination but you ignore it because it points out how sophomoric your statements are.

Transubstantiation
The conversion of the substance of the Eucharistic elements into the body and blood of Christ at consecration, only the appearances of bread and wine still remaining.

I will say but this, I'm pretty sure that folks in JESUS' day didn't speak Elizabethan English.

Neither does anyone I know of today yet folks prefer to quote in it even tho no one speaks it today.

Ageed Bill, but the Wescott & Hort new and improved versions have eliminated some scripture, and changed some scripture, to the tune of some 64,000 changes and deletions combined.
It doesn't take much effort to comprehend the kjv.

Well Bob, it was just crackers and wine or juice until about a thousand years ago when some archbishop added it to the things catholics had to believe.
JESUS said as often as you do this, do it in remembrance of me.  That can be taken two ways.
1- they were breaking bread together and from that point CHRISTians started meeting in private homes on the first day of the week and "broke bread" together and sang psalms and hymns and worshiped JESUS.  This was a couple of hundred years before the catholic church started.  Also Paul was writing to the Churches of CHRIST long before the rise of catholicism.
2- As often as you do this could have meant, as often as you observe passover, so communion would have happened only once per year.
Our Church had a traditional passover meal one time and my wife and I partook.  It was not the greatest meal but gave some insight into what the Jews consumed on that day.

Please comment on all the other symbols that JESUS used.
such as calling himself a vine, door, rock, sun, etc.
You seem reluctant to address those things.

In the scriptures I quoted, Christ is speaking in a "metaphor".
"HE" is the bread, as the bread is signifying food to sustain life.
HIS SHED BLOOD, is the wine, which signifies "sacrifice" in paying for their sins.
Both are metaphors. The Bible is  full of'em.
In Luke Chapter 13 He refers to Herod as "that fox", which in Jewish culture at the time was an unclean animal. .
In John Chapter 1 verse 29, John the Baptist refers to Jesus as "The Lamb of God ", another "metaphor.

The 23d Psalm is made up entirely of "metaphors".

The Bible speaks in metaphors, symbolism, literalisms.
A "parable" is a "metaphor" extending into story form to illustrate known facts.

2nd Timothy Chapter 2 verse 15. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.

Some do, some don't. Some can, and some can't.
Some let somebody else, and hope their right.
And some let somebody else, and blindly assume their right.

Some, rightly divide the Word
Some, wrongly divide it
Some, twist it to fit their own beliefs
And some distort it to control others

so when i claimed that man was created 7 days after the earth was created was a metphone YOU and others told me i didnt have faith. Funny im usually the one arguing that the bible is full of metaphoners because it was written by humans and you and othes say it is the WORD OF GOD and WROTE BY GOD. So which is it fact or story telling???

Oh my..different views on the subject..

Transubstantiation ..the bread and the liquid* are body and blood  (Roman catholic version)

Consubstantiation ..the bread and liqid* are both bread and liquid, as well as flesh and blood (Lutheran)

Metaphorically, as a memorial..  Most all outside the RC and Lutheran communities.

  *  I say liquid, because the Bible simply says "the cup"..not defining whether it is wine, grape juice, orange juice or ginger ale..  ;)   ;D

While I see it to be figurative speech as a memorial, so long as the the rest of mandatory doctrine is right..salvation won't be interrupted.
"They have the guns and therefore we are for peace and for reformation through the ballot. When we have the guns, then it will be through the bullet"      (Saul Alinsky) ...hero of the left..

Ah, "figurative". Another word for metaphor. "Spade vs shovel" so to speak.
False doctrine is false doctrine, and it always leads to "more false doctrine".

We only killed the truth a little bit, so the truth is just a little bit dead.
