Cadillac may be on the verge of transforming into an all-electric brand, but it’s not done with piston-power just yet.

The luxury automaker has unveiled new high-performance versions of its CT4 and CT5 sedans.

Released under the Blackwing name and designed to compete with the likes of the BMW M3 and M5, the cars are the successors to the ATS-V and CTS-V that were discontinued in 2018 and 2019.

The Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing competes against the BMW M3 (Cadillac)

The compact CT4-V Blackwing features a 472 hp 3.6-liter turbocharged V6 while the midsize CT5-V Blackwing gets a 668 hp 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that is the most powerful engine ever stuffed under a Cadillac hood.

The Cadilac CT5-V Blackwing is similar in size to the BMW M5 (Cadillac)

Cadillac said the CT4 should be able to accelerate to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 189 mph, while the CT5 can do that sprint in 3.7 seconds on its way to a maximum velocity over 200 mph.

Those figures apply to cars equipped with the available 10-speed automatic transmission, but both come standard with a six-speed manual. They also get GM’s Magnetic Ride Control active suspension and uniquely-designed high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tires.

Cadillac's Super Cruise hands-off driver aid system will not be offered, despite its availability in other CT4 and CT5 models. A brand spokesman said that is because it doesn't fit the Blackwing ethos.

The order books are open now for delivery this summer at prices of $59,990 for the CT4-V Blackwing and $84,990 for the CT5-V Blackwing.

son in law on the side buys wrecked cars and fixes them up and resells them. Hes done to caddys. One with the 5.7 vette motor that put out 350 hp and other one he did last summer. It was the one that used the same supercharged motor as the zl1 camaro and z06 vette. I had it at the house for about a week before he sold it. that thing was scary fast. It would spank my 6.4 challenger and that was the older version that i believe had around 580 hp. thought about buying it from him but the wife said no until we get the new house built this summer. HOW BORING!

Cadillacs are supposed to be long, wide, comfortable with big fins on the back.

Racers quickly recognized the advantages of the new Cadillac powerplant. Famed Indy driver Paul Russo won the 1949 Milwaukee 100 stock car race in a Cadillac, and Red Byron finished third in the 1950 NASCAR Southern 500 in Darlington, South Carolina. Gober Sosebee took the pole position and finished second in a 100-mile NASCAR Grand National race on a half-mile dirt track in Columbus, Georgia, in June 1951.

In 1952, Buck Baker won a 250-mile race in NASCAR’s Speedway division in a Cadillac-powered Indy-style car, and Tom Deal’s Cadillac finished second in the Carrera Panamerica road race in Mexico. Cadillac engines powered Briggs Cunningham’s limited-production sports cars and made the English-built Allard J-2 the car to beat on road courses from Watkins Glen, N.Y., to Pebble

early cadillac biggest selling point were they had the most powerful motors you could get. Even in the 70s they had the largest displacement motor (the 500 cube) that any american manufacture has ever used. A motor that even to this day is the sweetheart of many hot rodders. Performance?? In 1931 caddy came out with a v12 motor when 6 cyl cars were rare. Bottom line is nobody wants giant marshmallow cars with more weight in chrome then most cars weight today. bottom line is people buying top end cars expect performance along with luxury. Its why the benz amgs bmw m's are so popular over seas and even here. Nobody wants a 75k-150k luxury car with a 200hp motor.

In the late 1940s, national stock car racing was a form of a free-for-all.  That Cadillac must have been an anomaly.
The national champion such as it was, apparently was a 1949 Mercury, with it flathead V8.  Then Oldsmobile came along with it's "Rocket V8"..
But from 1951, 1952 and 1953..they all took a back seat to the Hudson Hornet, flathead 6 with "dual power"..that is, two 2-barrel carburetors.  They hammered everybody for those years..

As I said, stock car racing in the 1940s was a mixed bag...  In the early 1950s it apparently started to settle  down with Hudson's dominance.

The top cars for 1949 was almost comical..   Note: A1937 Hupmobile placed 4th.....

Sorry about the above double post, but I got 2 "time out" signals..and couldn't post, so I thought they wouldn't show.
In any case, here is a list of NASCAR winners over the years..

My only question on this new, 200 mph Caddy...  So some average Joe buys one, where does he use it anywhere near to it's potential ?

I recall a time when I regularly operated a vehicle of 1746 cu.in., and 820 hp (drawbar). It weighed 50 tons, so it would not be practical as regular transportation, since the tracks would tear up the highway.

Besides, if I swung the gun tube, it would destroy vehicles in the oncoming lane...  ;)  ;D

It seems we have to consider practicality in the long run..

The only item these cars can use as far as HP and Torque is the ability to pass quickly, some thing that is greatly under-rated , or not used by too many of the  average Dork Driver Joe. (Men are worse than women.)

That common cars can now accelerate quickly, it a plus, BUT the other day I was following a car that passed the car in-front of him/her, I was going to pass with it when the arsehole hit its brakes half-way past the car and what should have taken five seconds or so took , I am guessing but NOT exaggerating, well over ten seconds.

I do often, what is called pushing a car that passes me, which is not many; morons pass you then hit their brakes and end up going slower than you were then they passed you.
By pushing, accelerating, once they are past you so to stay a safer distance in front of you they cannot brake.

where can you drive a 100 in your car? In what world do you need an 06 to kill deer at a 100 yards when you can do it with a head shot from a 22? Some just dont get it. Its not about needing. its about wanting and theres a pile of people out there that want performance. One thing i can honestly say is ive never heard a single person say he wishes he would have bought a smaller motor. Ohter then maybe a greenie hippy that is worried about saving the planet. Cars are AMERICA. AMERICA LOVES CARS and not all of us are boring.

My dad was not a car guy. He didnt care one bit about performance. that said he allways said the most dangerous driver on the road is that man putting along in no big hurry looking at the scenery or just not in a hurry because hes going nowhere. Every time someone that time actually means something to has to pass him he puts everyone in danger. Someone driving 45-50 in a 55 is much more dangerous then someone driving 75. Even the law makers are realizing that lowering speed limits didnt do a thing toward lowering accident rates. If anything it increased them. Guys living in city areas dont realize this because there on 4-6 lane roads iwthi 70mph speed limits where passing someone is very safe. Up here there are no 4 lane roads. Most speed limits are 55 and roads are far from straight. Grandma driving 50 or grandpa trying to pass a semi in his underpowered 4 cyl are much more dangerous then me driving a 500 hp challenger ever was. Sure i wring it out on occasion but i do it on back roads with no traffic. That said ive never had it up to what its capable of. to me it isnt about a 180mph its about getting to 80 or so right now. Had to laugh last year. We have a stretch of road thats nic named the casino stretch becuase theres a big casino and most people going there are old ladys and old men and theres always backed up traffic there. Finally last year they put a passing lane there. Now the old foggys drive 45 in both lanes. Summer when the campers come. Just going to town about takes the patients of a saint. dont know about where you live but around here between the old people the campers and idiots that come from the south in the winter and dont know how to drive on a snow covered road we need ENFORCED minimum speed laws not maximum speed laws. Should be if you cant maintain the speed limit you should by law have to pull over and let people by.

Well yeah, Cadillacs had big engines but they needed it to drag all that steel along behind.

no your insurance is high because of drunk drivers, people that drive without insurance and old people that shouldnt drive at all. Fact is the percentage of accidents caused by excessive speed in very small. Cell phones probably cause 10 times as many wrecks. Add to that we all know that insurance is a big rip off right from the git go. As to spinning tires we had a boxing coach that also owned the bowling alley in town. He was pure blood italian and they called him the mafia king in town. He had a front wheel drive eldorado with the 500 and i still remember the smoke shows he put on with that big boat. We used to laugh or asses off because it was about the only front wheel drive car we had ever seen. But even with that 500 sitting over the wheels it had no problem roasting the tires. Speed doesnt kill idiots that dont have skill do. A teen age kid today is handed his mas toyota corola. We think thats a meek mild little car. Truth be told its probably quicker then a 389 gto for the 60s. Car is more then capable of going over a 100mph. Heck my pickup will and also is probably quicker then a gto. Fact is if i decide to drive my challenger or one of my old vettes a 100 mph its a heck of alot safer at those speeds then a corola and is sure a heck of alot safer with me driving then with some 16 year old kid reaching for his cell phone at 65!! Or some drunk coming from the bar or some hippy driving even 55 coming back from the legal pots store. Look out west when they had no speed limits. Guys that lived there will tell you speed related wrecks were rare. Look at the autobahn. people driving safely at a 150 because they bought a car thats capable of it. Ive been driving fast cars, motorcycles atvs, boats snowmobiles heck about anything that goes fast all my life and im still here and havent even been responsilble for putting a scatch on anyone else. Only wrecks ive ever been in were drinking related back in my younger and dumber days. In those the only one that got hurt (luckily) was me.

Well, about every time a bad wreck is shown on TV (they show the fatal ones) the cops always say high speed was involved.
On state or county roads I drive the speed limit.  On the interstate I stay in the right lane and drive 55mph.

A few weeks ago my wife and I were going down I-75 in my truck (55mph) when we were suddenly surrounded by a large group of some kind of sports cars driving at high speed with loud engines and they got so close to us that I pulled my gun and laid it in my lap.
Then they sorta released us and started pulling on to the shoulder.
I have no idea who they were or why they drove so aggressively, unless they were some kind of crazy car club out to create havoc.

Close how, left lane, surrounded you, what?

I went to vo-tech with a recently retired LEO, he said they often simply wrote speed as no one would challenge it.
He also said speed did not have to mean speeding, it often meant speed for conditions or failure to get up to traffic speed (the latter killed enough old farts, in a ten year period,  the State of Minn. finally put in an over-pass where they did not want to) .

well you all better run and hide from honda accords there base version does 0-60 in 6.6 seconds which is quicker then an ss396 chevelle a 389gto or a 351 Cleveland mach 1 from our younger years. https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a29820082/10best-2020/  Dont know what you drive but id bet 99 perecent of the will go north of a 100 and out accelerate most muscle cars from the 60s. Makes me wonder if some of you didnt have parents that made them wear a helmet and knee pads when riding there bikes.  ;)

55 mph on today’s interstates sounds like just wanting to be rear ended.

I have a 4000# suv that is supposed to go from 0 to 60 in 6.2 seconds. I haven’t tried to see if it will do so. I woulD really liked to have something that was capable of that kind of speed back in my single days. I could have won lots of money.

Must have been hells angels driving camaros ;D ;D ;) What did you think they were going to do jump you and take your lunch money. Doesnt take much to scare some i guess. Sure hope a group of good Samaritans in motor homes dont surround  you on the freeway. Might need a bigger gun for those big rigs.  :o
LOL Twenty some years ago, down in Indiana, I was driving on an Express way and there was some old fart who was going to control speed or did not give damn who he held up.
Behind and along side me were multiple semis who could see I was having a hard time trying to pass the old sob, as he would speed up and slow down when I could almost pass him on the right side.
I finally got around him on the right side when one of the semis pulled right on the bumper of the dude in the slow lane who also part of the game and he accelerated away quickly and the semi passed him then moving into the fast lane; the one behind him waived me to go also.
Then the one that passed him slowed down and the one that waived me by pulled along side while one pulled up behind him (I watched all this in my rear-view mirror.
The one in slow lane then slowed down and the sob got his pathetic arse out of the fast lane quickly.

Had a similar situation on U.S. 10 four years later, only this time the two dudes holding things up were driving side by side at a continuous speed with a long string of cars behind them.
I had to get to work so I finally simply passed both of them on the right shoulder, the semi behind me followed me around them as did another behind him.
Gee the dweeb in the fast lane suddenly decided to move over to the slow lane and vehicles streamed past  him.
It is amazing----  that when they raised the speed limit, driving on that road became far less stressful; they did actually pass a law two years ago where both those morons could now get a ticket.  8)

In those the only one that got hurt (luckily) was me.
early cadillac biggest selling point were they had the most powerful motors you could get.
Cadillacs are supposed to be long, wide, comfortable with big fins on the back.
I’m sure Elvis is spinning in his grave.  He could afford fast cars but chose luxury.
Well yeah, Cadillacs had big engines but they needed it to drag all that steel along behind.
At one time I had a 1970 olds 88 with (I guess) a 350 engine.  It wouldn't spin the wheels from a stop sign, but that big rascal just floated down the highway.   200mph street cars is why my insurance costs an arm and a leg.
Remember, speed kills. ;D

They were pulling over in front of me, barely missing my truck, while some acted like they wanted to sideswipe my left side , while others would run up on my bumper so close I couldn’t see their hoods in my mirror.
Laugh if you want, but I had my wife with me and if someone causes her harm or makes her think she will be harmed, I will not hesitate to kill.   It was probably young punks picking on an old man, but they apparently didn’t know that I would eliminate one of them if my wife was harmed.

55mph used to be the speed limit on most interstates, and a person in the RIGHT lane at that speed is no danger to anyone except those who are driving at HIGH SPEEDS and BREAKING THE LAW.
So if your high speed kills you, I have no sympathy.

As for the killing part, I don’t mind spending the rest of my life in prison if you harm my wife.
My wife is well taken care of financially and the taxpayers would pay for those dozen pills I take every day. ;D

Does anyone recall the Jimmy Carter gas crisis..they always need a "good crisis".  Nationally, we were restricted to 55 mph on all roads, super or not!  No, I don't think that was a good idea, but they did it !

I try to maintain at or near limits on all roads and highways.  There is no need to block traffic on secondary roads, where there can be miles of double yellow lines, especially hilly or mountainous places.

If I hit cruise on the interstate, i usually opt for about 62 mph, that way I don't really block traffic, and they can pass me at will.  If I placed it at 65, I would be continually on and off the cruise, so a couple mph less goes fine.

  What we don't need is to ridicule fellow posters, simply because they hold a different OPINION.  An example below;

I kind of relate it to gun control. People who dont like guns think they should have a say in whether i need them or not. people who dont own an ar15 that are even gun owners willing to let the goverment clamp down on what they like. I dont really care what you drive. Dont loose a bit of sleep over it. But the government telling me what kind of car i have to buy?? No thanks! Putting corporate gas mileage limits on manufactures?? Its me buying the gas, let me worry about that. Adding taxes for gas guzzlers?? All that does is pay for a few more martini lunches. My biggest chuckle is in MI i can ride a harley with a t shirt shorts and sneakers with no helmet. But get into my 5000 lb truck with a full frame and air bags i have to buckle a seat belt????? Like Iron glow said those 55 mph limits were put in when the oil crunch in the 70s came in and when cars got 15mpg. back then my truck got 10mpg.  Its long gone and if anything our roads are even better then they were then and even my 392 challenger will get 25mpg driving 70 and my truck will do near 20. 55 mile per hour limits are ridiculous. Given a choice between a twin turbo'd caddilac and a toyota prius or some Kia hybrid? Take about a no brainer. Right up there with choosing a honda moped over a FLH ulta classic. Or a high point 9mm pistol over a wilson 1911.

Those speed limits cost us tax payers ALOT of money every year and save nothing. they cause as many accidents as the prevent. Some cant figure out that if it takes a truck driver 10 percent longer to drive his product across country someone is going to pay for his time. Some of you arent really effected by it. You live where theres 4 lane interstates in your back yard. Around here 90 percent of the roads have 55 mph speed limits that are just silly. but to tell someone they dont need something because you dont like it or putting goverment controls on it? Sounds a bit like socialism to me. Telling me its ok for you to have a car that goes a 120 but because i want one that does a 180 im nuts and unsafe???

How about if i paint a flower on the side of it and put a greenpeace sticker on it. Would it be less intimidating to you? BIG differnce here is theres a couple car guys that love cars and trucks. there more then basic transportation to go get groceries. Same way guys with harleys or boats or avid snowmobilers think. Even gun guys. Big differnce between a guy who has a 3030 and a 12 guage that goes hunting 5 days a year then there is a guy like me that live and breaths guns. Some just understand that passion and i feel sorry for you and hope you have something in your life that gives you that same feeling of passion because life is way to short to just exist. My ma will tell you even from my toddler days my favorite toys were cars trucks and guns. She said about anything else was ignored. ME? Id much rather a 100k house to eat and watch tv in and a barn full of toys 4 safes full of guns and a kick ass reloading room that kept me out of the house then a 200k house with a bigger tv that i sat in all day because i cant afford anything else. Im not giving up on life and sitting around waiting for God to catch up to me.

This is a very good post.
It's apparent that an opinion by someone like me is taken as some kind of hate speech.
I don't care if someone owns 200mph cars or a house full of AR-15s.  It's not for me though, and because of my opinion, it was suggested that I'm a socialist.
I have NEVER suggested that we do away with the above items, and never will.

So, do I take the word of a police spokesman who has seen hundreds of fatalities on the highway,
Or, the word of someone who enjoys breaking the law for some kind of “manly” thrill??

I know all the cops in my town, and when I accompany my wife to her council meetings I converse with one or two of them and we talk about many things, speeding being one of them.
And the consensus is, people who drive at high speed is more of a danger than me.
You go ahead and call me stupid if it pleases you, but that only shows your dangerous temperament.

And the consensus is, people who drive at high speed is more of a danger than me.
The head of the Minnesota Highway Patrol, in the eighties said, on a radio show, that he did not condone speeding but people who did not move at the speed of  of traffic were a far greater danger; that those going faster do not obstruct to the flow of traffic , often a danger to them selves, while those who refuse to get up to traffic speed are a traffic obstruction and a
danger to every one around them.
Traffic obstructions,  cause accidents.
As I said people who on U.S. 10 who did not get up to oncoming traffic speed ended up dead, no one was blamed but them and when enough had died, including people who they pulled in front of,  the State finally spent money they did not want to and changed the intersection.

I don't recall anyone saying that you should not have what you want and can afford, if you can find a place where that sentiment is expressed..please post it !

...What I was addressing, is exactly what you posted above.  What Bug said was not an insult to you, but just a statement of experience or opinion..

If he had insulted you by suggesting you were foolish, simple minded or a speed demon, I would feel the need to call him on it.

Note; even above you insisted on saying he was stupid, rather than suggesting it was merely a difference of opinion.

Just for the heck of it I did a little research and found that in a panic stop situation the car doing 80 mph requires 200 more feet to stop than the car doing 55 mph.
I also keep a safe distance from a car in front of me when I can.

And here's an article that kinda explains how speed kills.

LOL, he doesn’t bother me.  I’ve got a BIL just like him.

A few of years ago me, my wife, her sister, and the BIL decided to spend New Years in TN with family.
So BIL rented a Crown Vic  and I would pay for gas, and he scared the crap out of me and my wife.
We both vowed to never ride with him again, and we haven’t.
