Burmese python weighs in at 300 pounds and is more than 16 feet long

Two Florida cousins say they have wrangled a 300-pound, 16-foot-long Burmese python on their family property outside of Tampa.

The massive snake -- which is the biggest ever reported to be found in Zolfo Springs -- was first spotted on the side of the road by Aaron Brown, who then called in his cousin William Wilkerson for help, according to Fox 13.

"Once we got him pulled out, it was like, 'My God! What a snake!'" Wilkerson told the station.

The pair hooked and shot the snake before learning it weighed hundreds of pounds and was 16 feet, 4 inches long, Fox 13 reported.

"We measured him and laid him down and the two kids down beside him to get a rough idea and ended up finding a tape measure," Wilkerson said.

The reptile was then handed over to Dustin Crum, a snake hunter. After he took the snake to be skinned, 100 eggs were reportedly found inside.

"We are down in the Everglades trying to stop these pythons from migrating further north in all directions," Crum told Fox 13. "Hopefully this is a rogue snake and they haven't migrated this far north. These boys stopped an invasion by eliminating a big breeding snake like that."

They look kinda like Florida good-old-boys, so they probably yanked a 9mm out of their pockets and blazed away.

BUCKSKIN. I always wanted to try snake meat but never have. MANY years ago My cousin and I found a rattler while deer hunting in SO ILL   and decided to kill it and roast it over the campfire. Glen wanted to play with it first. Time we finally killed it it stank horribly so we tossed it in the river. CHARLIE.

Don’t quote me on this, but I heard or read that snake poop stinks horribly.

Even a garter snake has a heck of an odor, although it is a defense mechanism, so that may not be universal to those with other methods of protecting themselves...

Snapping turtles don't smell good either, but I enjoy a couple every year!

Just have to be careful how you handle a snake, even the nonpoisonous snakes can give you a pretty good bite with their needle sharp and the bite needs to disinfected asap. I used to go to the Sweetwater, Texas rattlesnake roundup with a bunch fellas in the early eighties to mid eighties to hunt. Back then there was some decent money in catching snakes prior to event and during it. The Jaycees paid by the pound and most hunts we participated in paid for our expenses and everyone had a little spending money in their pockets afterwards.
Basically you use either a snake hook or tongs and put them in a burlap bag and haul them to wherever you were camping. On Sunday we would turn in all the snakes we had for weighing in and then they would cut us a check.

Never hurts to have a good bull snake or king snake around the place to keep the rattlesnakes under control, not mention how the good ones help to control rodents around a place in the country.

We turkey hunted in So ILL a long time ago. Everything was flooed including our usual campground. Saw no tukeys but found a few mushrooms.
The three of us decided to mushroom hunt along the RR tracks. Glen drove a mile or more up to the next RR crossing while Alan and I walked the track towards him. Didn't take long to find out that most every snake in the lower lands were on those tracks. We thought it would be funny to fill the paper bag with snakes for Glen. We had at least5 or 6 in there. When we met Glen he saw Alan carry a sack of something. Did you guys find any?? We assured him we had, let me see. Alan handed him the bag and one of the big blacksnakes came right out at him. If there was an olympic record for throwing a sack full of snakes, Glen would have beat it. I got more, but tired of typing with one finger. CHARLIE.
