  I carried that drilling with that load many a mile in the bush of Alaska in all kinds of weather, sometimes for weeks at a time...

  A nice used drilling can be bought for around 3K, there's a LOT of folks that have near that into an AR, OR carry two or three guns TRYING to make a survival setup.

  When I was in the bush, I didn't want to hike around with three guns hanging on me, when I could have ALL THREE in the one gun in my hands!

I am still kicking myself for walking away from a very nice savage 24 with a 20 gage 223 combo 575.00 out the door it was really nice had cut checkering stock. it was really nice.

This adaptation of the survival gun used by the military for pilots: the old M6:
This one is a .22 /.410. Accurate and functional. From Springfield Armory (unfortunately not available at present.)
My two cents about planning to use a gun as a defensive arm: rethink that. Chances are that any situation where there is a shootout against multiple aggressors will end badly. In survival situations, the key to survival is to evade, not to draw attention.

I've always liked the idea of the AR7. I have 2, one original charter arms and a Henry.  The Henry has a tube stock canaleiver bull barrel.  No matter what extended mag I have ever used, never had reliable results.  The bull barrel is able to be sighted in at one distance and anything over a 10 yard +or- difference it's off. It has set in the gun room for years because it's a pai. But I recently picked up a tacsol owyhee.  That is a tack driver.

Chiappa makes an M6 but it's 12 gauge or 20 gauge with a .22. They also make a folding .22/,410 with wood stocks.

like to argue over that all day long

they've been on the market here, I've
never ever seen an affordable one.
Even the little cheapy Chiappas are way
expensive here

I have no clue Ironglow. I just copied the subject line as it was on the original article I copied to here.

I guess my all time favorite .22LR wasn't a take down, it is the Weatherby Mark XXII with tube magazine.

For a take down I guess the old Savage O/U I had in 20 gauge and 22 magnum is as close as it comes. I had a Marlin 39 once but really didn't like it so it didn't hang around long.

Don't know for sure, but based on most of the listed guns and modern outlook, I'd guess the author would anticipate a "fire fight" situation. Personally I think a single shot fits my view because it doesn't need as much "food", meaning ammo, to feed it. Just can't get worked up about the distopian futures projected in books and movies so no fire fights in my anticipated future. But I could see myself getting lost in the wilderness across the highway from where we live, and a single shot sure would fit that situation.

   Likely because on a ship, at least the two I sailed on...anything left for a time without maintenance, collected salt on it's surface.

I saved the best till last TCR 87 with a 7mm-08 a 22 Hornet and a 12 Gage shotgun and if those cal don't tweak your fancy then I have 13 more barrels in Different cal. Kill most anything in the USA. Then if the 87 does not get you going I can replace it with a 83 with set triggers.

I dated a woman from Maine for a number of years after my divorce. Her father was a lobsterman and fished almost until the day he died in his late 70's. We would refer to him as either an "old salt" or a "salty dog".

Those were/are really nice, but for whatever reason
I never saw any available in this area ( IIRC that was

are priced accordingly

In collecting the TCR stuff I never saw anything for sale past Oklahoma going west, don't know why but most all that I saw for sale was always to the east. And what i bought was always here in Oklahoma or from guys on line. I did buy one complete rifle with an extra barrel off Gun Broker but the seller was in Tennessee. The fellows selling on eBay that list TCR barrels wont twice what they usually bring but I also notice that MGM barrels are way up to what they use to sell for new.
