Orange plastic magazine doo dad thingy

One of the neighbors handed me a thing
made of orange plastic that is pretty much
a non functional magazine that has Ruger,
LC9, and some other wording on it. I can't
imagine what the function of such a thing
might be, unless it's some kind of anti lawyer
anti lawsuit device that was stuck in the
magazine well of a new Ruger gun for anti
liability for shipping from the factory, or
maybe even for training purposes.

What is this thing?

Some of my guns have an orange or red follower, which is quick to spot, assuring that the magazine is empty.  With all the hungry lawyers lurking around, I couldn't blame the manufacturer if they put such an indicator in place.
  The last 2-4 rifles I bought, had the red flag thingy, that slips into the barrel and leaves the flag sticking out in front of the bolt !

  Joe's new bill against guns, is going to try to place blame for on for instance, on Keystone...should some nut use a Cricket to shoot somebody !

Love my Cricket, hanging on my shoulder it is barely felt, and its peep sights makes it accurate.
I doubt if I shoot anyone with it.

Well I don't have anything that this doo dad fits.

Oooowe. I don't know that I'd want

I figured that this was one of those
pieces like what poeleece used for
training when they practice "tactical "
magazine swaps. I've seen blue plastic
ones that had a metal weight inside
for realism.
I wonder if the gun that uses this
could be modified in some way to
not need it? Just seems like a silly
thing for the 21st century JMO

An empty mag works as well.  As I recall, you need a magazine or this piece of plastic in the mag well of the California Compliant versions to be able to release the trigger.
