I have a Taurus M44 and I was wondering if it is safe to shoot shot shells out of it. I could swear that I have read somewhere that you aren't supposed to shoot shot shells out of a ported pistol because of the over bored section at the end of the barrel.

Well, I've shot a bunch of shotshells out of my ported 608 and it still does fine. But don't take my advice as gospel, this is just my experience.

Shot shells won't hurt any steel barrel, their in plastic caps. I shoot hundreds of them a year. I would reccomend you clean your barrel before returning back to regular loads.

Thanks guys, I'm not worried about the plastic in the barrel or anything like that. What I'm worried about is the overbored section where the barrel is ported. It has a lot bigger I.D. than the bore does but then it constricts again right at the very end of the barrel. It's over bore diameter but a lot smaller than the ported section. Not sure of the actual dimensions, digital calipers battery is dead and my brother has my dials.
The thing I'm concerned about is when the plastic cup reaches the ported part if it will exit thru the constricted area at the end of the barrel cleanly or if it might get a little crooked and cause a potential problem? (ie. weapon, shooter, bystanders)

If the barrel has an expansion area and then a restriction as you describe, I WOULD NOT shoot shot shells in it. I think that is a recipe for disaster. My Dan Wesson has a similar set-up on my compensated barrel, but fortunately I can remove the restrictor at the muzzle. It just happens to be an advantage of the interchangeable barrel system. On barrels that do not have the restriction between the ports and the muzzle, there should be no problem with the shotshells.
