After you kicked the mexicans out, you should have stayed independent. :)

The battle for Texas Independence was not based on race, the war for independence was fought by people of all colors, races and nationalities who sought to free themselves from oppression. One example is Juan Sequin who fought for Texas Independence. There are hundreds of examples/accounts of native Texicans and immigrants who all came together and fought against an oppressive dictator for their freedom.

Yes
Since they don't teach Texas history
as a mandatory school subject anymore,
most younger people don't know and
don't realize our first vice president
was Lorenzo de Zavala, born in mexico,
was a bigwig politico in mexico, and
probably could have lived a life of
luxury in mexico if not for the tyranny
of Santa Anna and the crooked
mexican government of the time.
He knew how insignificant mexico
was and how important Texas was
and helped form important parts
of the new nation.
This republic was initially a part of
mexico and the settlers from the USA
were allowed to come here as a buffer
between mexico and the comanche
tribes that preyed upon the mexicans
here. You had to prove up your land
claim and convert to the church and
learn spanish. The initial settlers would
most likely have been content to remain
as mexican citizens if not for the treachery
and cruelty of the corrupt government
and Santa Anna. Might have even been
so today
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I'm sure you are exactly right.
but most of us old timers just "remember the Alamo." ;D
And what you are saying was true then and the battle going on in DC today is being fought by all races on the side of conservatism.
May our side win.

ADZACKLY! There were a lot of Mexicans fighting for Texas independence, alongside settlers.
Wish we were still the Republic of Texas.
