Asinine car prices

This 1968 Ferrari 330 GTC was among the top 10 sellers at the RM Sotheby’s Open Road online auction, bringing $454,349.

I do not want a recession but the prices for these cars , to me, shows that there is going to be another 2008 type shock coming sooner rather than later.
This particular Ferrari was for decades, the common mans, family car Ferrari.
Last one was built in1968; in 1997 the average price for these was under 15,000 dollars.
Total 330 production is over 1,800 cars.

Same silliness goes for some British exotics that went from 4 digits to 6 digit sales prices in twenty years.

Yup the prices are outrageous, even on those used vehicles sites. High mileage 2002 Ford F-150, not even four wheel drive. $ 12.000.

I noticed the 308 ferraris have skyrocked too. 10 years ago they couldnt hardly give them away not there getting 5 figures for some of them. Should have bought a couple when you could have picked them up for 20k.

You hit the nail one the head on that. Our dollar wasn't worth much before the bailouts began and it's shrunk a bunch with this one. It's going to take a suitcase full of them for a trip to the grocery store pretty soon if you intend to pay with cash.

Gasoline has gone up a buck a gallon here since the dimacrats took over in Washington. The spelling was intentional as that's how I see about 99% of them, dim, as in no wattage at all in the brain department.

I saved my money to buy a brand new car when I came home on leave between Vietnam tours. I only paid $2800 , out the door for a brand new 1967 Chevelle Super Sport 396. Boy how things have changed.

The last new car I bought was Lindas' 13 Honda Pilot XLE. Its loaded for that year at $34,000.00.
It now has 60,000 miles on it, and its still in excellent condition. Value? About $7,000.00, but banks won't loan money on it.
We're keeping it.

I had a 63 Impala 2 door hardtop, a 67 Chevelle SS396, and a 72 Chevy K5 Blazer with a  CST package.
Wish I had those back.

Let a completely original 70 F100 Ranger XLT get away from me and sold it when we moved to the Texas Hill Country and I'm still kicking myself for letting it go but it needed a new engine and tranny and being retired you tend to watch your savings fairly close. The 66 belonged to my wife's grandfather and I bought it from him in 89. The 70 was a newly acquired pickup and hadn't owned it for long when my employer decided to retire me, seems the millennial management didn't appreciate old school experience versus new trains of thought. Funny thing about that is with their governance they managed to basically bankrupt the company and it's a fifth the size it used to be and more senior management has been put in place.

No Argent the 70 was an automatic with the 360 V8, our 66 is a column shift with the 352 V8. I was the third owner on the 70, a gentleman from southern Oklahoma came into some money from oil royalties and actually traded it in at the Ford dealership in Wichita Falls for a new F150. The fella I bought it from had a buddy at that dealership and got it for him. Turns out the second owner's dad had been a Ford parts manager at the local Ford dealership in Odessa but shortly after he bought it he encountered major health problems and had to sell it. It was completely original other than the original owner from Oklahoma had fashioned a coolant recovery bottle out of an antifreeze bottle and had it bailing wired to side of the radiator.

ya but you probably made 200 bucks a month then in the service. Ive bought new trucks about every three years since 77. Sat down one day and looked back at cost vs wages and the cheapest one was my 2003. The new ones now are 50k
 and the guys doing my job are pulling down 80k a year without even ot factored in. Look at the differnce in quality fuel ecomony road ability features ect and the cars and trucks today are a bargain compared to the junk we bought in the 60s and 70s. Now id love me a 67 ss396! Very cool car. Had a 70 ss454, needed rebuilding at 65000 miles. For the same money factoring in cost of living you could buy an ss camaro thats faster much better handling riding and with 3 times the gas mileage and isnt hardly broke in at 65k. Look at the guns we buy. Bought a new bdl when i got out of the service for 235 bucks. Today youd pay close to a grand for one. Wages? I started at the power company in 1980 and made 6 bucks an hour. Retired in 2009 making 47 bucks an hour. Those good old days arent so great when you use a calculator.

Just wondering, I had a blue 1969 Ford 100 inline six. It was a column shift three speed. We called it ole blue.

A friend of mine found a old dune buggy with a air cooled VW drivetrain in a neighbors garage that hadn’t been run in a few years. After bugging the owner for quite a while to sell it to him he bought it for $ 1000 about 3 years ago. He rebuilt the dual carbs, replaced some brake lines, new battery and tune up parts and had it running well.
Well the same thing happened to him recently. Someone told someone he had it and a guy stopped by and asked him if he would sell it and at first said no he liked it to much. The guy didn’t even hear it run and offered $ 6000 for it !
Well my friend said yes pretty quick to that offer, He said the guy was just thrilled because he had been looking online and he couldn’t find anything under 10 K and the ones he found all needed work.

recently saw an article on the fiberglass tub vw dune buggy kit cars from the 60s. Nice originals were bringing BIG bucks
