.
A new, 1st amendment case..and how I read it..
Some college students were not allowed to openly speak their Christian beliefs at their college. Wanting to avoid confrontation over the issue, they confined their evangelical efforts to 2 small "free speech" areas on campus.
It seems the PTB at the school were not pleased with that , so the campus police moved in and the Christian was moved out.
A free speech suit went forward, ending in the SCOTUS. The students won their case..for free speech, but were not awarded any damages.
Next, award monetary damages.
The students only asked for $1, the school fought it down to the wire. Why did they fight the $1 settlement? Well, that $1 settlement would be admitting damages, which would make the case a
precedent setting case in favor of free speech.
I am surprised that 8 of the justices agreed allow the case to go ahead. Nevertheless, justice Roberts decided AGAINST the free speech win, writing against the case proceeding! At least, that is how I read it !
