Alright Boys> Quiz time! (Windage problems)
« on: March 04, 2004, 07:14:14 AM »
My 22mag is zeroed @ 75 yards, but at 25 yards my rifle my rifle groups 1/2" to the right. At 100 yards it groups 1-1/4" to the left. (tight groups) Is this an indication that the scope center is not center Plumb over the bore of the barrel?

Are you sure you don't have a screw loose ? :)  I mean loose screw on your mounts. Was there a change in the wind? Did the same person shoot the groups? Parralax?

I took the barrel out of the stock and checked the allignment as far as being center of the receiver. It was off line. Lucky that the rings are Millet ring which allow windage swift of the whole scope. I put a center lin on the appex of the barrel/ receiver and mounted the rings centered on the line, then reinstalled the scope.
   The 25 yd test:
The first shot with the scope relocated was 2-3/8 inches left & 1/2 inch high.
Four more shots to zero, then the 5 shot group.(lower right)

  :D
I'll check it at longer distances this week-end.
Not  bad for a 22 Magnum.

Here it is:

I only shot 3 shot groups due to the wind.
A chronograph was also set up.
The first shot through a clean bore with the CCI 40gr fmj was 1931fps. The next was 1888, every shot thereafter was in the 1836-1844fps range.
The 100 yard group is the best My rifle has ever done (5/8" center to center). Normally the 100 yard groups are around 1-3/4 inches
I just took my rifle to the smith to have the trigger worked on. It was weighed at 7lbs  . This morning I hope to find it is 3lbs. That will help the accuracy aplenty.
I was taking steroids just to pull that 7 pound trigger!
