Eye doctor tells me I had a stroke in my left eye
« on: March 16, 2021, 12:28:07 PM »
Along about last Wednesday or Thursday something major happened to my left eye. It went from 20-20 to nearly blind overnight. I see a yellow circle sometimes with a darker smaller inner circle out of it. Can't see much with it really and as I type this have a patch over it.

I went to my eye doctor today. He said I had a stroke in that eye. He said there was a blockage in a vein or artery, don't remember which and the pressure built up until it just exploded in the eye. The photo they took and showed me looked pretty nasty.

The only fix and it is not guaranteed is to get shots in the eye. I got the first one today. He said it might take 2 or 3 or it might take 30 and there might or might not even be improvement then.

This is gonna make shooting difficult at best and even dealing with the forums here is difficult. The eye feels like someone threw some gravel in it. Sand in it wouldn't hurt this bad.

Trust me a needle in the eye is NOT fun.

I was by myself so with my eyes dilated and and the left one next to useless and worse than that after the shot I had to drive home about 30 miles and to top it off it was raining and the last 3 miles on a 2 lane road with almost zero shoulder if you get off the pavement was with it raining cats and dogs.

I'm home and likely won't be going anywhere much other than for doctor appointments for a few days or longer.

My goodness I'm sorry to hear
about all that
I know everyone and myself will
pray for your complete recovery.

Isn't there somebody that you can
call to chauffeur you in cases such
as this? No friends or relatives?
I guess I would probably be in the
same boat. I have an appointment in
a few days myself, and hopefully they
won't disable me. Supposed to just
be the routine office visit and maybe
blood and/or the poop stick. Don't
think there'll be any butt fingers either.
Hopefully
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I feel for you Sir. I got a big size chunk in my left eye also when I was about 30. Never the same after that. Nothing worse than a hurting eye. Good luck and hope everything goes well with you.

They call that a vitreous hemorrhage. Sometimes they are bad and take a long time to heal. The needle was for removing the blood from the eye. How do I know? It happened to me.

BILL, BIG prayer sent, more on the way. You were already in my daily prayers, but this is totally different. I expect a rapid healing to 100%.  OUE Pastor was fishing with a good friend a year or so Ago, he has a glass eye. His buddy got snagged, when it came loose the sinker hit Bro Fuller in his good eye. That was really scary. He came through it 100%, I have the faith that you will too. CHARLIE.  :D :D

I could have gotten Matt to take me if I had any idea it would turn out this way. I've driven myself home from regular eye appointments many times with no issues. This time the shot in the eye complicated matters greatly and the weather really make it horrible.

I really should have just sat there in the parking lot and called for Matt and Becky to come up and one of them drive me and the other their truck. After all I gifted it to them when it only had about 12,000 miles on it.

Don't think this is the same David. He wasn't taking anything out he was putting medicine in the eye. He was clear that he was putting medication into the eye.

My brothers and sister have wet type macular degeneration.  They get the eye shots as needed, and are doing quite well with these shots and they take the AREDS vitamins.as well. I think its going to be Ok GB, but opt for the top shelf medicine which Medicare doesn't cover entirely..
.TM7

I'm not on medicare. I have government employee's Blue Cross insurance. Doesn't matter if fully covered or not. I'll pay what is left over if any.

I don't know what the shot he is giving me is but he said it is THE medicine for my problem. It's my vision so no cost will be spared. My insurance usually covers almost all of any such but I have a small copay sometimes.

This morning the grittiness is mostly gone, tho not quite. I still have the yellow dot and blurry vision but with both eyes open it's not nearly as bad as it was, my right eye is taking most of the load now.

It's tough driving with only one eye. I had a job for a while that had a commute that would sometimes be 2 hours in the afternoon. One day at work I was drilling an aluminum box and caught a piece of aluminum in my eye, it somehow got around my safety glasses. I went to the infirmary and they put this goop in my eye, I couldn't see out of that eye for hours after that. I did like you and decided to drive with one eye for 2 hours, it was the worst drive of my life.

Don't think this is the same David. He wasn't taking anything out he was putting medicine in the eye. He was clear that he was putting medication into the eye.

It probably isn't the same thing, all I saw one morning was a big black blob in my left eye. The Doc waited a few days to see if it was going to get any worse, praise the Lord it didn't. Removing the blood also depleted some of the vitreous fluid, it was replaced with some kind of a saline duplicate. But the needle in the eye was about the same discomfort.

Prayers for you Boss, it's amazing that you made it back home driving with one eye. I wore a black patch for two weeks and whole thing altered my prescription in that eye. Thank goodness I aim with my right eye.
It's the dominant now.

I guess it comes with the cost of getting older. I often think of what next, cause something is just around Conner.

Yup getting old sure ain't for sissies. It seems it's always something next to be the problem as the tired old body wears out a little at a time.

Today vision in the left eye is still very blurred and I can't read anything on a page with it. But the yellow circle does seem much less than it was so that is giving me hope that at least some useful vision may return to the eye in time.

It is still very scratchy feeling. I found an old bottle of a prescription drop for the eyes and have been using it. It was one of their prescription meds given me for when I had something that got into the eye and was irritating it this way. It does seem to help more than the over the counter drops in relieving the discomfort.

Overall tho I feel things are better after that shot in the eye yesterday.

Maybe that light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train coming at me after all, maybe.

My vision is improving, I still see the yellow circle looking out the left eye but it is much more thin and can be seen thru better. Today I can actually read what I'm typing here with just the left eye. It's fuzzy but readable. Of course I have a 40" monitor less than 4' away from me so that's kinda like cheating.

The shot the eye doctor gave me sure seems to be helping. I have another appointment with him in a month, I don't know if he'll give me another shot or not but I suspect he likely will.
