Any comments on the Leupold M8 4x28 EER Handgun Scope? I found a good deal on a used one. Seriously considering putting it on my Taurus Tracker .17 for small game hunting.

It's a good one. For years I used one on my .223 and could hit prarie dogs out to about 225 yards. Beyond that the critters were just too small and the reticle was too big! Even at 200 things could get pretty iffy. Anyway, my point is that it is a very usable scope. It just depends upon your personal taste regarding how much power you'll need. With the .17 HRM you could also easily consider a rifle scope. Just a thought...

What do you mean regarding using a rifle scope? How does this work on a handgun without EER?

I have used a rifle scope on a Contender 22lr handgun and did not like it, but a lot of people do. Since a 22lr or 17 HMR does not have any recoil so to speak, you use a rifle scope and hold the thing close to your eye. I never could get comfortable using it. I would not want one on a revolver like this because the blast (both noise and crud from the cylinder gap) would be way to close to my face to enjoy. The noise from shooting my Contender like this was too loud for me.

I use a rifle scope on my 14" contender in 17HMR. Works great. You kind of have to get used to using it that way but it's really not hard to get used too. Kind of like shooting a pistol grip rifle without the stock. Just settle in behind it like you would a rifle. I usually use a sand bag under the grip and squeeze it like you would a rifle bag. I have shot many 100 meter groups under an inch with this setup. Even took it prairie dog shooting last year. It does get a little tiring after a while though. So I put together a nice Contender carbine, 23" G2 barrel with a laminated thumbhole stock. Sweet shooter. KN

I agree with you, that setup is not that bad from a bench. I had my problem using it in the woods.

What caliber is your carbine. I was thinking of getting a 22lr with a match chamber. As well as my 10"er like this shoots, a 23"er should be great.

Ok, I see your point in using a rifle scope for bench shooting, maybe in a pinch to do some accuracy testing, but I don't think it would work for me in the woods very well. In fact, I'm a little disappointed with this EER scope as I am long armed, and the eye relief is not long enough for me to do one armed shooting, not that I do that much.

How about considering a Bushnell Elite 3200 2-6x32. You will get an extra 2" of eye relief.

Perhaps next time. The Leupold M8 is a done deal. Besides, I need about 6 more inches of EER! The M8 works for me with a 2 handed hold very well. Lookout squirrels!

Try turning the rear lense in as far as it will go. This will give you a little more eye relief.

I put two thumbhole carbines together. One is a 17HMR, the other a 223. KN

How much ER can be obtained by turning the lense? If I remember correctly, there are alot of threads exposed. Will this affect the focus?
