Fox News

Too bad Indiana Jones isn’t looking for a new car, because the "Holy Grail" of Corvettes is coming up for auction.

(Mecum)

A one of a kind 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 is scheduled to cross the block at the Mecum Auctions event in Glendale, Ariz., on March 20.

(Mecum)

The Sunfire Yellow coupe is one of 20 1967 Corvettes specified with the L88 option package, which essentially turned them into competition cars.

(Mecum)

The L88’s were powered by a race-developed 427 cubic-inch V8 that was officially rated at 430 hp, but could reportedly crank out 560 hp on racing fuel, which was a monstrous amount of power for the time.

The cars were also equipped with high performance suspensions, brakes, "rock crusher" close-ratio 4-speed transmissions and Positraction rear axles.

(Mecum)

The fully-restored car coming to Mecum is the only known example with factory Sunflower Yellow paint and, more important, the only one with its original numbers-matching engine, which could make it the most-valuable Corvette in the world.

One of the other L88s coupes was auctioned for $3.85 million in 2014 while a convertible went for $3,424,000 in 2013, the two highest prices ever paid at auction for a Corvette.

man thats a good looking car. those 67 big blocks are THE corvette. Nicest looking ones that they ever built in my opinion and even the iron block 427 tri powers were no joke.

A Corvette like that but a differant color. Was featured in the old 60's movie " On the Beach". Survivors of a nuclear war in Australia were all who were left, and the crew of an American submarine, and they were doomed to also die. They kinda went crazy because it didn't matter. And one of them in that car was driving super fast on a beach road, and didn't seem to care anymore. The theme music for that movie was Waltzing Matilda.

Another car like that was used in the TV series Route 66. But it was a convertible.

It is Sunfire yellow , that is a poor picture.
I love yellow cars; back in the late sixties/ early seventies that GM color was very popular.
But then any thing is better than the various shades of baby poop brown or tan so popular now, black or grey.

When I was young you saw lots of brighter green, blue, yellow  and red shades; now it is mostly same neutral crap.

You can have all the yellow cars.  Don't want no part of them.

The jeeps look kinda ok, if you mix in a lot of black body accessories. Fenders, bumpers, roofs. Things like that.
So does red.

yup a poor picture. thats actually a sharp color in person. There was a 67 tri power running around town when i was a teenager. it was green. I think they called it donnybrook green. That would be my choice for color but i sure wouldnt part with that yellow one if someone gave it to me. only yellow vehicle ive owned was a 2000 wrangler. I always felt like it made it look like a girls jeep. Even with black wheels big tires and a winch up front. Ended up giving it to my grand daughter. She loves it. I like the old in your face colors. Probably because of my love for old mopars. Nobody took car colors to higher levels then mopar does. Even today. Dont want a lime green or purple or yellow pickup but a hellcat those colors sure isnt going to offend me.
