« on: March 22, 2021, 07:50:06 AM »
Picked up a 'New to Me' Mossberg ATR 7mm08 Friday...

Saturday Morning I Necked down some 308 brass, Loaded up 3rds with 3031, and the NOE 288-135-FP.

Went out side in the Rain just to see if It would Shoot...  Standing about 40yds from the Trap...put all 3 into about an Inch...

Off hand with Open Sights.... :)   I like IT!

Love the 7-08, less sure on the Mossberg but the last several reviews I've seen on them seem to indicate accuracy is much better than the early ones. Some I've seen in reviews look pretty nice.

I'm another one that loves the 7-08, I bought my Son one of the Mossberg rifles in 7-08 several years ago for hunting and he loves it too. The 7-08 will do just about everything the 308 will (up to at least 150 gr bullets) with slightly less recoil (probably can't tell without an accelerometer to measure it) and with a more aerodynamic bullet which should equate to longer range, I did slim down the stock as it was a little bit 'clunky' to us both. He has taken several Deer with it over the years, his first Deer was a nice heavy (for Missouri) body 6 point.

dont have a 708 anymore. Got rid of the last one because i have 4 308s and many other guns that will do what the 708 will and do more deer killing at long range then under 200 yards. That said ive bought 3 atrs. Two 243s that went to my grandkids and an 06 i got cheap used. All of them amazingly shoot moa and some loads even a smidge better. They shoot every bit as well as my rems and winchesters do. Ugly but no uglier then a savage that cost near twice as much.

The 7-08 has a pretty good accuracy record especially long range hunting and competition. I used it for Deer hunting for many years until I switched to the 6.5 Grendel Deer hunting in a bolt action, T/C G2 rifle and a couple of AR's.
