Wow, what a day

The wind was blowing when I got out of bed this morning and it got up pretty high by noon but we hadn't seen anything yet. About two o'clock the world almost disappeared in a brown cloud. Visibility was down to about 100 feet. The dirt must have come from all the way from the sand hills under the caprock as there is around 25 miles of grassland west of me to the cap. The weather station a few miles north of me reported gusts to 80.6 mph. I only lost one shingle off the house and none off the garage or pump house and I can glue the shingle back on so big deal. The lid on my HD trashcan that I keep bird feed in has no lid any more though. Looks like having those expensive shingles put on after the last hail storm paid off.

My youngest grandson lives a couple of miles south of me and it blew his well house over taking the pressure tank with it and he is out of water. My grand daughter just came in from Lubbock and said she had to pull off the road and stop because she couldn't see anything for a while and then coming on home she saw several power poles blown over. Having grown up over in that area I knew she was going to have trouble getting home.

All in all it's just March on the south plains Some years we get by without any of this and other years we don't. The good thing is tornadoes a few and far between in these parts.

Must be global warming, just like the 100 year Texas blizzard. You can't predict mother nature. Just gotta be prepared.

Not t-lock. I haven't seen any of those for years. It settled down enough that I got out late to check stuff and the one shingle seems to be the only roof damage. My almost new wind sock is sorta ragged now and I need a new trash can to store bird feed in as the current one's lid could be somewhere in Texas now. It's probably hung up in a mesquite bush somewhere east of me. All in all I came out pretty good. The weatherguesser is predicting 30 mph through Friday so my shingle replacement may wait to the weekend. We did get a little rain along with the wind. The weatherstation reported .05" putting us up to .38" for the year.  We also had a very short power outage and the internet went out for a little while.

80 mph doesn't happen very often with 70-75 considered a bad day and they aren't all that frequent. 60-65 is more likely and 50-55 pretty common this time of year. The highest recorded that I know of was 93 and I could actually see the double paned window glass flexing in the window on my back porch facing the wind. I was thinking it would break but didn't.
