More of same price, less product
« on: March 23, 2021, 05:31:26 PM »
I guess the quantity of everything you buy
will get cut back to zilch.
I've been noticing products I have to restock
stay the same or increase price wise, but
you gradually get less and less product.
Every now and again, I have to shave in a
big hurry and use shave gel instead of my
usual mug and brush routine.
I had to pick up some shave gel today, and
noticed the container seemed smaller. Sure
enough, when I got it home, it was smaller
and had an ounce less. I guess I better look
at the cakes of shave soap the next time I'm
at that store. I'd discovered they'd cut back on
the size of bath soaps last year. I guess they'll
eventually get around to all of it

In a pinch, I tried hair conditioner as a facial lubricant with EXCELLENT results - a little dab 'ill do ya - so I recommend that.  I never throw away the tiny bottles the hotels provide when traveling.  They have been collecting in the Guest Bathroom for years.  No one ever uses them.  They are repurposed now as I use nothing else.

I use the 99 cent cakes of Williams shave soap instead of the cans of shaving cream. Once you get used to them they last longer and work better.

Although I most often use Barbasol shave cream, sometimes I will just take whatever i am using for bar soap, rub it across my whickers a bit, then work it into a lather with my fingers.
Works OK..though not as 'handy' as foam..   Something i did as a GI while in the field...I didn't carry a brush, dish or can of foam into the field.

Even toilet paper. A roll of the stuff is starting to look like adding machine tape.

I go to T.J. Maxx beauty section and buy hair and cleansing product their.
Bought on large, 4 by 3 by 2 inch bar of bar soap that "cleans and moisturizes" put it in the shower and use that for shaving.
Slick as a puddle on ice.

I buy the large sizes of any thing there, used to be a quart, as price per ounce is far better and T.J. has good prices.

You are correct about toilet paper; beside sheet count you nearly have to take a tape measure along to see what size they really are.
The big ones are now so big they do not fit in the old built in wall dispensers, but some are NARROW.
I bought a case of the industrial kind two years ago, and that is good stuff, not narrow and less prone to pilling but I got it on the new buyer , free shipping special, only reason it was as cheap as it was; I have one roll left of my Chinese TP, if they put as much TP on the roll as they did material in the core, they would be a lot bigger.
To crush the core, takes real effort; would be great for home made giant fire crackers. 8)

I do also.  I have maybe 10 or 12 cakes in the cabinet.
I only use the gel when I'm very pressed for time and
don't have the luxury of a proper hot cup of lather to use

Don't care for the aerosol squirt cans
of foam myself. Very wasty as far as
economy vs effectiveness for whisker
softening ( for me anyhow)

I also noticed the TP and paper towels
getting smaller.  Not too many other
alternatives for me in that area.
It's either pay or have a crusty rear
and dirty surfaces etc.

If you have a Costco in your area they have the best TP and paper towels.  I grew a beard many years ago and I sure as hell don't miss shaving.

I never cease to be amazed how 15+ lbs of dog food can be fitted into a 25 lb bag. A 50 lb bag is now 35-40 lbs. We but some on sale pnut butter from kroger, I was glad to see the price come down, then I picked up a jar and saw it had been dropped from 18 oz to 16. One of the cuts that really irritates me is not being able to get a full 16 oz pack of smoked sausage, now 14 oz. COFFEE?? Good grief, now they can get 13 oz in a 16 oz can. I'd rather see prices go up, than having the product reduced in size. CHARLIE.  :o :o

Bacon, a lot of packs are 12oz instead of a pound. Costs about the same.

Fortunately the discount place I buy from survived the Chinese virus but there still are 16oz. bags of coffee out there and at this place I can often get true 2 pound bags for little more than a 12-14oz. bag.
Cans in old sizes are getting harder and harder to find
One good thing is they often have premium coffee from Euro lines and 250Kg bag is 8.8oz. and 500Kg bag is 17.6oz.

I've gotten burnt on those before, I didn't realize it until I got home either.

Another one that irritates me is the 20 lb propane tank exchanges. They don't put a full 20 lbs. in it and they charge you more than if you go to a fill station and get the full 20 lbs.

That's why they cut the quantity you get.
Most people just buy things they usually
buy and don't give a second glance if their
bill is pretty close. The worst thing is when
many just write a check for their credit card
and don't look at the statement. Just look
at the total and never look for any oddities.
When I had a Citibank account, they got to
where they'd hang a late fee in the very middle
of the statement. I'd have to call, and they
were very bright and cheery and took the
fee off. After I caught it several times , I
paid it off and closed the account

I’ve been using my scent free soap/shampoo and it works for me. I’d grow a beard but my face breaks out after about 10 days.
