Five people were killed Thursday as tornado-producing storms ripped through central Alabama, destroying homes and structures along the way, Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown confirmed to Fox News Thursday.

Severe weather warnings were issued for the parts of the Mid-South and Tennessee River Valley, with tornados expected across the region.

The National Weather Service (NWS) declared a number of tornado warnings in Alabama, with some remaining in effect until 8 p.m. CT, as wild winds shred across the state.

"The most persistent/intense supercells will be capable of producing strong to violent tornadoes, along with very large hail and substantial damaging winds," the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center wrote Thursday.

Three of the victims who died Thursday were living in a wooden home, while the two other victims were living in mobile homes.

The Calhoun County coroner said it is currently unclear how many injuries occurred during the storm.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey urged residents to stay safe amid the storms.

Ohatchee is only about 12-15 miles from me. It was far closer. When it left Ohatchee it went thru Wellington which is still closer.

Matt and Wyatt stood out at their house just a few miles from Ohatchee and saw two tornadoes moving together. Faye showed me a photo earlier someone took just two miles from my house of them still moving together.

One death was at Wellington and the other four at Ohatchee.

Matt was out here a little while ago disconnecting us from my generator as power finally came back on. He said the tornado passed just on the other side of the hill across the highway from me. Likely at most a quarter mile from me.

It crossed Sulpher Springs Road he said no more than a hundred yards or so off the road I live on. That cross roads is at most a quarter mile also. Just beyond it going east is a cemetery and it reached the road I live on at that point, call it 3/8 of a mile from me. It took down trees there and went on up the road I live on moving east. It wiped out all the out buildings at the Clark farm, took out all the row of cedars along a large field there, blew roofing tin all over the other side of the highway and wipe out all the trees on the front of that guys land.

It went up up that way and eventually went thru Pleasant Valley and on into Piedmont and I dunno where to from there. It started I think in MS so was a really long track EF2 according to Matt. There were also two of them traveling together side by side so Matt reported and I saw a photo of it from the gas station two miles away from me.

Here at my place I lost my old cedar I planted about 25 years ago and got lots of someone's home insulation and that piece of roofing tar paper but that's really about all.

We of course lost power due to all the trees it took down across power lines. Had no phone, TV, internet or power until about an hour or so ago. I do own a generator and Matt came over and got it running and we had drop cords running all thru the house.

One went to the freezer, one to refrigerator, to a lamp in the living room and to my CPAP machine. I made do without my oxygen machine. Most all of my neighbors also have generators so their sound humming away sure has been loud out this way.

But we all came thru it OK and only had minor inconvenience and now all is back to normal here.

Lots of folks lost their homes and very nearby those 5 lost their lives.
