If you have a gunsmith inlet the rifle, it should be 'bedded'. Inletting is creating the bedding for the metal work. You can ask that he somplete the inletting/bedding however you desire. Please remember these are semi-finished, meaning there is a lot of extra wood both inside the stock and outside the stock. The outside of the stock will also have to be 'shaped' and sanded. It will also need finish. Yes you can use an oil but I think a polyurethane is more appropriate. Use a rubbing poly available at WallyWorld and heat the stock to 'un-comfortable before applying. Keep the stock soaked while it cools. let it set a few minutes and wipe off all you can. Do this twice. Then polish with steel wool(00-000) and start applying just enough at a time to allow your hand to slide over the wood, a few drops on each side of the stock. I like wo apply several coats and level the surface. If you've done a good job all that's needed is a little steel fur. Otherwise sand, with a block, and at least 400-600 grit paper. When it's as shiney as you want and there are no more pits(pores), it's done.
