Beating Up on Georgia
Major League Baseball responded to calls to boycott the state of Georgia over a controversial new voter-ID law by moving the All-Star game out of the Peach State.

But teams still requires fans to show photo ID to pick up their tickets from the Will Call booth.

South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace called the league out on Twitter.



"Hey @MLB, this you?" she wrote, along with a screenshot of the Will Call policy at mlb.com

The league did not respond to multiple requests for an explanation of its photo ID policy for ticket retrieval.

Proponents of the move to abandon Atlanta’s Truist Park for this year’s All-Star Game have argued that Georgia’s new GOP-backed election integrity law is a form of voter suppression and is racist. President Biden even called it "Jim Crow in the 21st Century."

Georgia’s new law comes after Democrats swept both Senate races in runoff votes and President Biden edged out former President Trump on Election Day.


The Georgia election reform bill expands the number of early voting days, allows the observation of ballot counting, prohibits ballot harvesting and continues to allow voters to cast absentee ballots without an excuse, but requires proof of identification, among other measures.

It also gives the State Election Board more authority over counties.

Another feature would block anyone from handing out food and drink to people waiting in line to vote.

The move garnered national attention, with praise from the left and criticism from the right.

Former President Donald Trump called for a boycott of the national pastime and other 'woke' corporations – while former President Barack Obama praised it as a way to honor the Atlanta Braves’ most famous Hall of Famer.

"There’s no better way for America’s pastime to honor the great Hank Aaron, who always led by example," Obama tweeted Saturday.

Gov. Brian Kemp wrote in a Fox News op-ed Wednesday that Democrats have falsely characterized the bill he signed.

"These reforms have nothing to do with ‘voter suppression' or ‘Jim Crow’," he argued. "The Election Integrity Act makes it easy to vote by expanding access to the polls and harder to cheat by ensuring the security of the ballot box."

Yeah, you should but we all know
what happened there.

A lot of people here that violently
object to identification and fingerprints
are " refugees " from the New Orleans
area that took the opportunity to
take on new identities and said all
their records were lost during Katrina.
Since a good many had criminal
warrants and huge debts, etc. It
was the opportunity of a lifetime to
" start free and clear " and not have
to serve their time or pay creditors.

That wouldn't bother me in the least either. As to MLB, I would rather watch grassburrs grow in my lawn than watch baseball and I really dislike grassburrs.

A bit of a difference. in Rome the games were free admission. In America it costs a lot of money to go to a game.

  Frankly, i would like to see a short 'current events' test or similar, just so the potential voter can prove he/she has a functioning brain..

I remember reading books about the Roman colosseum, and those texts saying that the games were free.  A lot of those games were killing people and animals. Not seeing which team scores the most points.

Regardless, if it comes down to needing a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread, which at the rate money is being printed. That could happen. Do you think people are still going to pay money to go see a baseball, football, or basketball game?  Or are they going to spend what money they have to eat?  I just disagree that sports are going to be the last business to fail.

   Historically; the games were free for the public...of course on a "graded" basis..the wealthiest go the best seats, and the lofty politicians, "the box seats" so to speak.  Of course, the Emperor had the major box seats.

   The games were "free", because the politicians paid for them, as a way of trying to buy votes....much like today.

  Politicians and parties spent many millions to buy votes today...and back then was no different, except unlike today when TV and the internet are the manner of reaching most people, back then the best way of reaching the people was through the games.  The Circus Maximus seated 200,000..

  The chariot racers had "teams" just like today's sports teams, except they went by colors..the reds, the greens the blues etc., and  Their "racing silks" reflected it.

  Politicians also sponsored the gladitorial games, over in the Colliseum also.   Expensive campaigns?  Sure, but like today, once they got the job..the "pay back" was enormous !

   The government itself supported the games also.  Once elected, the senators were still were buying votes, plus the games kept the angry mob quiet !
