On the late night occasion I cruise the youtube song variety, I find in the comment area it is common, very , very common for youngsters, people not even born in the eighties to say music was far, far better back then .

That the new stuff with few exceptions sucks.

Seems strange that CD sales would increase when it's so much easier to go electronic. I am aware of the increased interest in old fashioned vinyl records and all that goes with listening to them. They are supposed to have better quality sound and probably do but at my age and hearing ability I can't take advantage of them. There seems to be enough interest in vinyl that the local Walmart has added them to it's inventory. If Walmart carries something it has to move. Anything that sits on their shelves goes away and I understand why. I have a bunch of record stored away. Maybe I should get one of the blutooth turn tables and start listening to them again.

I still have a turntable and lots of the old vinyl records. Even going back as far as some of the first releases from the Beetles ( rubber soul) Janis Joplin( Pearl) Jimmy Hendrix ( electric lady land) and many more. Given to me by my older siblings and they are in very good condition with the original jackets. I don't know how much they would be worth on eBay if I ever decide to sell them.

I have a bunch of CDs and have put a blutooth transmitter on my player so I can connect to my large HK blutooth speaker out in my garage while I'm tinkering out there. It older stuff. George Thorogood, ZZ Top , Ventures, CCR, Joan Jett, Johnny Cash, Aerosmith, and so on. 60's, 70's and a little 80's rock plus Johnny. I won't be buying anymore CDs though. It's too easy to download music from Amazon to mess with any than the ones I already have.

Good mix of music you got there O&S. One of my old vinyls is the Ventures. The one with the girl on the cover wearing a gold bikini. Wow, we as teenage boys thought that was hot back then lol.

My daughter got me hooked up on Netflix for movies instead of buying them.

Impressive. Nope, it's really simple or I couldn't do it. The only trouble I have run into is an old BT receiver I was using on my very old Pioneer stereo wasn't compatabile with the newer BT version on my whoopty-do iphone and I had to buy a new receiver. They aren't expensive though. Netflix is great and it's cheaper than buying DVDs. We just fined up watching "Lucifer" last night on NF. Fun series but if you're deeply religious you might not like. I considered it like I do Halloween, enjoy it and don't take it seriously.

My son is 18 years old and listens to music mostly from the 60's and 70's. He's a musician and gifted drummer. He and I both agree that the music of today sucks. I grew up in the 80's and even back then I thought that music sucked compared to the 60's and 70's but now I'll admit that 80's music was miles ahead of what we have today.

I like those bands as well. I got to see Aerosmith live one time. A lot of people don't know that Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top was one of Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarists.

Another thing I heard recently was that vinyl record sales surpassed CD sales last year for the first time since the the 1980's and vinyl record sales increased 30% from 2019 to 2020. As a musician myself I prefer to listen to vinyl over anything else except for maybe high end reel to reel.

It's always been a niche commercial market for audio geeks but it's still in use in studios. Most of your crappy pop music is straight digital but reel to reel still has its place in studios. It gives the sound a "warmth" that can't be achieved going straight into a digital medium so what studios typically do is record straight to reel to reel tape and then they transfer that to a hard drive to make editing and overdubs easier. You get the best of both worlds that way.
