New Seating Die. New "problem"

I have never had this happen before.  A new 30-06 Seating Die, first use, cleaned with alcohol, closed the ram with the case on the bullet, and at withdrawal of the ram, expecting a seated bullet on the case, the bullet stuck in the Seating Die and only the case withdrew!

I took the Seating Die apart, screwed the seating stem upside down in the die body, held it in place for the shot through the center hole of the ram, and took the picture.






I used the Hot Glue technique to make the die "fit" the bullet and that worked perfectly.

Does it have a sharp burr on it?

Maybe it's slightly out of spec?

Who made the die?

It's a "late model" (new) RCBS die belonging to my neighbor for whom I was making some ladder test rounds.  The 150 gr. FMJ bullet is repackaged by MidwayUSA, so its original Mfg. is unknown.  Double checking the "throat" of the seating stem (looking for a burr) didn't help as the hot glue in there forms a seal, which is working, so I left that alone.  All is well that ends well I suppose.  If it was my own die, I would send it and a bullet back to RCBS for honing, at least.

  Now you know why RCBS made a whole box full of different seating stems....so you can match the seater to the bullet style...

The hotglue has some give, so when you seated the bullet, it forced the bullet into the hotglue and stuck.  Lube the tip of of a bullet and manually put it into the stem and spin it a bit to lube it well.  That should make it slick enough not to get stuck.  Many choose to use epoxy or JB weld instead of hotglue, which doesn't have any give.

Just chuck it up and give it a spin with some krokus paper. Quick and easy

  just match up the plug to the style of bullet you want to use.

I've had that happen. Bout a 30 second fix. Put it in the drill press and touch it with a needle file for a couple a seconds to get the sharp edge off.
