Who is Kimberly Potter, the cop involved in the Daunte Wright deadly shooting?
Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said Potter had been placed on administrative leave

Minnesota police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright identified
The Minnesota cop who investigators say fired the shot in the death of a 20-year-old Black man during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon has been identified.

The officer is Kimberly A. Potter, whose career with the Brooklyn Center Police Department has spanned more than 25 years, the Star Tribune reported.

Potter, 48, is accused of fatally shooting Daunte Wright. Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon described the shooting as "an accidental discharge," and said she had meant to fire a Taser, not a handgun.

"I’ll Tase you! I’ll Tase you! Taser! Taser! Taser!" the officer is heard shouting on her bodycam footage released at a news conference. She draws her weapon after the man breaks free from police outside his car and gets back behind the wheel.

After firing a single shot from her handgun, the car speeds away, and the officer is heard saying, "Holy (expletive)! I shot him."

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office said in a statement that Wright died of a gunshot wound to the chest "and manner of death is homicide."

State records cited by The Tribune indicate Potter became a licensed police officer in Minnesota in 1995 at the age of 22.

She is reportedly married, with two adult sons, and lives with her husband – who is also a police officer – in another Minneapolis suburb.

It remains unclear whether Potter has retained a lawyer who could speak on her behalf. Gannon said earlier that she had been placed on administrative leave.

According to The Tribune, Potter was involved in another fatal shooting in August 2019. She was reportedly the first to arrive at a scene where Kobe Dimock Heisler died after rushing officers with a knife.

Potter has also been a union president for Brooklyn Center police officers, and was a longtime member of the Law Enforcement Memorial Association, The Tribune reported. In 2017, she was reportedly among 11 officers who received a Chief’s Unit Certificate of Commendation for a death investigation the year prior.

Wright’s death has sparked protests in the metropolitan area, which has already been on edge because of the trial of the first of four police officers charged in George Floyd’s death.

Well i'm sure when Daunte's momma gets interviewed by the local news, she'll tell us what a good boy he was. Had poor Daunte been such a good boy and complied, his momma wouldn't have a story to tell................

Well Daunte had a warrant out for his arrest. Who knows what it was for.

But I've got an opinion on some of these "apprehension devices" that have come out over the years.
I never really cared for "blackjacks" as hittin somebody in the head with such an instrument, I considered risky on Misdemeanor arrests.

I loathe pepper sprays, and warned my officers about not using them in an arrest I was involved in. The officers usually get as much of the spray as the perp.

ASP BATONS, are a very useful tool "IF" used properly.

Stun guns, and Tazers. Like  pepper sprays? Sometimes they work, and sometimes the make matters worse, and sometimes they overwork. Don't care for'em.

I know Law Enforcement in my day is now considered outdated, but physical contact back in the day. WORKED!

Yeah, the perp, and many times the officers, got banged up, and skinned up, but cowards, and weakness, on both sides of the badge showed up purty early on.

Technology didn't bail out , a 120 pound female police officer trying to arrest a belligerent 250 pound drunk then, so she had to use common sense.
She either realized she would be safer working in dispatch, or records, or backed off and called for backup.

Reluctance to go hands on with a perp, I think emboldens many so called badasses.
But I found out years ago, when "jim bob badass" sees no fear in the officers, and realizes he is going to jail with or without the scuffle, he most times chooses the without.

There were NUMEROUS officers on scene at this attempted arrest turned
 shooting.

Why would you even consider "tazing him"?

Me and my officers would have swarmed him like a  duck on a junebug, and hauled him off to  jail.

I'm beginning to think our newer officers these days are afraid of physical conflict, and long for some futuristic ray gun to avoid injury to themselves.

They need to dump the gadgets, and hook up.

"Well Daunte had a warrant out for his arrest. Who knows what it was for."

"Court records indicate that a judge issued a warrant for Mr. Wright earlier this month after he missed a court appearance. He was facing two misdemeanor charges after the Minneapolis police said he had carried a pistol without a permit and had run from officers last June."

Clearly a death sentence crime...  But the officer said she didn't mean it, so that should be the end of it...

I do agree with Dee that Police seem to go to the gun very quickly no matter the circumstance.  CLEARLY in SOME CASES having your gun out is called for.  I don't see a traffic stop or running from a traffic stop as posing a need to draw a weapon.  As an LA Sheriff friend in the Lenox Station (a bad part of LA) said "If they make me chase them they get a beat down.  If they don't then they just get taken in."

Is that the women who was VIOLENTLY breaking in to the Capitol Building??  Would it have been justified if she had been running away instead???

She is dead just the same. Just like the pos’s you defend every time... So if they are violent by your standards they should be shot, right?

In time I believe there were more crimes attributed to this (?) dead guy. Many times police charge these perp’s with a lesser crime as they gather evidence due to laws about (rights for a speedy trial). Sure would not want to infringe on a criminals rights aye? Butt, fine to tread on mine...

Watch the video She was trying to cuff him, he fought HER and was too strong for HER. SHE should have been a MAN, several of them and yanked his punky butt out of the car, that SHE could not keep him from shoving HER,  A POLICE officer, away and getting back in the car. BRAVE?? Yes, but SHE would have been better at a desk, dispatch, etc.

Was he just an innocent young black man??  Or a criminal??

Add up the charges AFTER he was stopped. Resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer, attempting to elude capture, etc.
He could be eating supper right now, in jail, but very much alive. INSTEAD?? He had to show his GF how big and bad he was. WATCH THIS BABE, cops can't touch me.

Just ANOTHER black man refusing to comply, resisting arrest, fighting cops, dying needlessly. JUST like osama obama TAUGHT for 8 LOOOONNG years. .
The trial in LOU to hang the WHITE cop for killing dope dealer breona taylor is being kept VERY quiet. The ONLY guilty party there was her live in BF that shot the cop standing behind her. The mayor and DA turned him loose, NOT guilty. GET THE WHITE COP.

If anyone gets caught in a mostly peaceful protest this summer, head for the Hallmark aisle and hide next to the Father's Day cards. You'll be safe there.

I didn't say anything like that. Didn't even mention a gun. I talked about all these "gadgets" the newer officers get issued rather than just "hands on arrests".
