Florida to allow its citizens to shoot rioters.

Florida is moving to allow citizens to shoot rioters and looters who target their property and businesses.Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has drafted new "anti-mob" legislation to protect local businesses from attack during riots. The move expands the state’s Stand Your Ground law and will give additional powers to citizens.Critics argue the laws would allow armed citizens to shoot and potentially kill anyone they suspect of looting, however.

DeSantis’s newest legislation comes in response to months of Black Lives Matter and Antifa-led rioting this summer in Florida and across the U.S.The legislation is an attempt to prevent “violent and disorderly assemblies,” according to DeSantis.Have your say - ⇓ Hit the comments below ⇓

The law will permit violence against anyone involved in the “interruption or impairment” of a business. The action is reportedly described in the draft as being a burglary within 500 feet of “violent or disorderly assembly,” according to reporting by the Miami Herald Tuesday.TRENDING: Fauci Wear a Mask Even After Vaccination to Stop Spread of COVID
“It allows for vigilantes to justify their actions,” a former Miami-Dade County prosecutor, Denise Georges, who has worked with Stand Your Ground cases told the Miami publication.“It also allows for death to be the punishment for a property crime — and that is cruel and unusual punishment.

"We cannot live in a lawless society where taking a life is done so casually and recklessly.”The draft legislation also includes measures that would make protesting which disrupts the public by blocking traffic, a third-degree felony. The law would also reportedly grant immunity to drivers who unintentionally kill or injure protesters who were blocking traffic.Additionally, the law would allow the state to withhold funds from local governments that cut police budgets.

DeSantis, an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump, who won in Florida by just over three points, reportedly submitted copies of the legislation to the state’s Senate Committee on Criminal Justice and the House Judiciary Committee, according to emails obtained by the Miami Herald.“It’s clear that the Trump beauty pageant is still going on with governors and senators, who all want to be the next Trump,” Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber told the publication.“And the governor is clearly a very good contestant.”Gelber, a former federal prosecutor, was also a critic of the Stand Your Ground law when it first passed in 2005.[RELATED] Rioters to Lose Welfare Checks Under New Bill.

This is as it should be.
A store owner should not have to stand by while a bunch of angry blacks ruin his livelihood.

In most cases they are watching it go on as the thugs destroy all that they have. And they feel powerless to stop it. Don't start tearing up and burning what another person has, or your going to get shot.

You claim not to be liberal  and then you twist an expanded "Stand Your Ground Law" into something Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, or Adam Schiff would say.

The expanded "Stand Your Ground Law" gives business owners, the same rights that homeowners have successfully, and rightfully,  enjoyed for years, and the escape portion of the law gives people who are surrounded in their vehicles by rioting thugs, the right to drive out rather than sit in their vehicles while rioters beat it to pieces, and burn it, with them in it.
The sad part of this is, you either know it, and are intentionally liberalizing it, or you are so lacking in comprehension, you need to be institutionalized for your own safety, and others around you.

Good. It should slow down this activity. People tend to modify their behavior when there is a very real chance of getting shot or run over if they don’t. I’m sure there will be some dumb enough to test the law though.

There have been laws on the books for a LONG time about shooting looters on sight for good reason. We don’t hang men for stealing horses. We hang men so that they won’t steal horses. Dumb asses beware...

True, but if I were them I'd skip the family owned mom and pop stores.

Right now the best thing I can say about Oregon is we don't get hurricanes and tornadoes are super rare.  It seems all the places I'd rather live have one or the other...

Portland could use a good hurricane to clean out the trash...  However when I lived there my biggest fear was some raghead would blow up the Bonneville dam.  That would take out at least half the city.  In Portland if the problem isn't tweakers, it's communists or ragheads.  Anyway you look at it, it's becoming the next Sodom and Gomorrah.

Roof Koreans taught us how to handle looters.
"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."

What do you propose? the rioting, looting, and burning of businesses, and public property has been going on since last summer. The only thing that will stop it is to start shooting them.  The consequences have to be grave enough for them to stop.  Its pretty obvious throwing them in jail hasn't stopped it.

Well, the thread title "Florida to allow citizens to shoot rioters" is a little disingenuous to say the least.
It is "not" a shoot a rioter on sight greenlight, but instead requires certain dynamics as does home invasions, personal safety, and protection of property loss.
It will be interesting to see if its tested by rioters, and exercised by business owners.

I always figured if I got in a situation where I was surrounded by rioters while driving my truck, I'd just reach down and pop it in 4X4 and not let anything stop me from a safe retreat...

I carry a small 9mm with a couple extra mags in the truck when I go to the city.  It's not nearly as powerful as one of my .357s, but I can shoot it a bit faster...
