A bit before the other two but still worth mentioning. I was in my teens back then but my two older siblings listened to them all the time. On the old 8 tracks.

I still remember the first time I heard "Proud Mary". I was listening to KOMA while backed up to a drilling rig on the north side of Denver City, TX waiting to make a cut-off about 11 PM and it played. Brand new song by CCR and I became a fan of them right then. It was a fairly pleasant, warm, early winter night. The next morning I was back over there up on the floor with a rosebud trying to thaw out the mud pump during a brand new howling blue norther. After about an hour and a half the driller finally realised that one rosebud wasn't going to get the job done and we gave up. I could have told him right off the bat he was whistling in the wind but it wouldn't have done any good.

KOMA was the station to listen to at night. It went away shortly after sunrise and became available slightly before sunset. Sometimes we could get WLX out of Chicago in winter but it was iffy while KOMA was always there year round.

KAAY and KOMA were two of the three late night music A.M. stations we used to listen to; do not remember what the third one was.

CCR and Jim Croce were two of a handful of artists I had no love for.

Oddly I am listening to an album A.M. station I rarely listen to in the early day, because then it is mostly lighter stuff but now they are playing what reminds me of KAAY Beaker Street and head-shop record store music.
As they play albums you hear songs you will not hear any where else and some covers I have never heard by some well known bands.

I still liked them anyway. And we did listen to KOMA at night also. First time I heard the night they drove ole Dixie down. Or the Doors. Or who Joan Baez was.

We used to listen to XERF out of Mexico now and then but KOMA was THE station back in my younger years. There was an AM station out of Shreveport that had the Louisiana Barndance on Saturday night that we listened to but I have forgotten the call letters. When KOMA hit the air wayes we all quit it for rock and roll from KOMA in Oklahoma. Back then it was all AM. I guess FM was available in large cities but certainly nowhere where I could listen to it. Anyone remember Wolfman Jack or the Midnight Special on ?

Yeah, I remember listening to KAAY in the 70's, in central Wisconsin.  It probably helped to form my taste in music to album versions and 'b sides'.  Couldn't find that stuff on commercial radio back then.  And yes, CCR is still one of my favorites.

I remember wolfman jack, we listened to KOMA in my dads car at night. Then I got a nice transistor radio for Christmas. Nice for the time I guess.

I still have a Zenith 8 transistor portable from the '60's. That was a lot of transistors back then and it's in a genuine leather case. It's still in great condition and still works even though I haven't used it in years. Now it's just another relic from by gone years but it provided a lot of entertainment for me back then. I took it to work with me for several years. I also had a Zenith Trans Oceanic transistor model radio but traded it for a TV. I still kick myself for doing that every now and then.

I used to have one of those Zenith Trans Oceanic radios. I loaned it to a guy, then he moved away and never brought it back. I still see a few of them for sale on eBay, depending on condition they can go for about $100.00 to collectors. Those old Zenith black dial tube types in good condition can go for up to $800.00. An EH Scott cabinet ,1939 chrome chassis green dial can go for 5,000.00 or more. Folks were into surfing short wave back then.

Just for kicks I went to ebay and looked around. I found a 3000 which was the one I had that was in very good shape and worked for $200.  I found a 7000 for quite a bit more money that would turn on but not bring in stations for quite a bit more money which seemed kind of silly to me. I also found one of the round dial, tube ones for over $300. From what I have read there isn't much available on the S/W air waves today. Just another medium that cell phones and internet has mostly replaced I guess.

I still get a lot of traffic from overseas. And some here but not like it once was. Useing a Dipole antenna with a tuner. Canada and Brazil come in pretty good. Tube types , there is an outfit in AZ that sells stuff for those old radios. Some tubes are becomeing hard to find, that all went to the little black button types.
