Attorneys of Andrew Brown Jr.'s family hold news conference following viewing of fatal shooting body cam video
Attorneys and the family of Andrew Brown Jr. blasted North Carolina officials Monday, claiming they were only allowed to see a small portion of police body camera footage showing the "execution" of Brown last week.

Ben Crump, the high-profile civil rights attorney who secured the $27 million civil lawsuit in Minneapolis for the family of George Floyd, said footage of the April 21 shooting lasted around 20 seconds and that Brown's family members were allowed to view clips from only one body camera instead of multiple vantage points.

Brown was killed by Pasquotank County sheriff deputies in Elizabeth City, N.C., during an attempt to serve an arrest warrant.

Elizabeth City officials declared a state of emergency Monday ahead of the possible public release of body camera footage. Brown's family and their attorneys viewed the video at the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office.

Crump, as well as attorneys Harry Daniels, Bakari Sellers and Brown's relatives, were present.

FAST FACTS
Brown, 43, was fatally shot as sheriff's deputies were executing search and arrest warrants on April 22, 2021.
The search warrant for Brown's home in Elizabeth City states that a drug task force had been watching him for more than a year and had confidential information from an informant about buying crack, meth and heroin.

Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools will operate on a full remote schedule for all students and staff through Friday "due to the continuously evolving state of civil unrest in our local community and under the advisement of our local law enforcement partners."

As of Monday morning, the National Guard has not been requested and there are no curfews set in place at this time, WAVY reported. North Carolina state Rep. Howard Hunter, a Democrat representing the area, told the outlet that Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten II has petitioned the court Monday for the public release of the body-camera footage.

Elizabeth City Mayor Bettie Parker said law enforcement anticipated a period of civil unrest after the release and the state of emergency order helps mobilize state and federal resources.

Rapper Meek Mill tweeted Monday that a state of “energy” declared by Elizabeth City, N.C., before the release of bodycam footage showing the fatal shooting of Andrew Brown Jr., “says enough.”

“Elizabeth city holding the killing video of Andrew brown shows you how much respect they have for us! They declared a state of energy before the video is released says enough!” he wrote.

Brown’s family viewed the video at the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s office Monday afternoon. Brown was killed by sheriff’s deputies, not Elizabeth City police.

Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten said officials are asking judge to release the video, which is required by law.

In a video statement released Monday evening, Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten II and Chief Deputy Daniel Fogg pleaded for patience from the community amid an ongoing investigation into the death of Andrew Brown Jr.

“This tragic incident was quick and over in less than 30 seconds and body cameras are shaky and sometimes hard to decipher,” Wooten said. “They only part of the story.”

Fogg said it wasn’t appropriate to comment on the matter until investigators gather all the facts. He noted that a judge has to give approval for the bodycam footage to be released.

“Those people who claim the sheriff’s office has the ability to release either don’t know North Carolina law or they are purposefully trying to inflame a tragic situation,” he said

Andrew Brown Jr. search warrant: Drug deals captured on camera weeks before fatal police shooting

Andrew Brown Jr. – a Black man fatally shot as sheriff's deputies executed a warrant in Elizabeth City, N.C., on April 21 – was described as a drug dealer in the Pasquotank County area and had a criminal rap sheet over 180 pages long and dating back to May 1988, according to a copy of the search warrant and other records obtained by Fox News.

Brown's family and their attorneys entered the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office Monday afternoon to be privately shown the body camera footage of the shooting – following a two-hour delay that Pasquotank County Attorney R. Michael Cox said happened to blur faces and complete redactions to the video.

They could have had a film crew there, and Brown could have been standing on the kitchen table with a machine gun firing into cops and it wouldn't have mattered.
Their on a feeding frenzy, and nuthin will ever be enough. Get rid of the cops.
