my vote goes to bad company and 38 special. Both had lots of songs but rarely make any top 20 lists of all time rock bands. If pushed id give it to bad company.

Bad Co and .38 Special were definitely underrated. Good Lovin' Gone Bad by Bad Company is one of the coolest 70's rock songs.

My vote for most underrated band would probably be Taste which had Rory Gallagher as a guitarist. Rory Gallagher himself might be the most underrated guitarist of all time. Rory was one of Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarists. During an interview with Jimi at the Isle of Wight festival a reporter asked Jimi what it was like to be the world's best guitarist and he replied "I don't know, go as Rory Gallagher". Brian May of Queen also cites Rory Gallagher as his main influence. He even copied Rory's amp/effects setup.

A tossup for most underrated band would be The Pretty Things. They were a musicians band. When Led Zeppelin started their own record label they loved The Pretty Things so much they signed them as their first band to their Swan Song label. The guitarist Phil May was actually the original bass player for The Rolling Stones, he quit to form The Pretty Things.

Too many to list
Lots of corruption in those days
and if you didn't grease enough of
the right palms, you didn't get airplay.
Corrupt agents, corrupt record companies,
Lots of factors.

I loved Bad company and 38 special. Probably if I had to pick a favorite of the two it would be 38 special.

Another group that I always liked was the Outlaws. I got to see once them when they opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd I guess what drew me to them was their hit Green Grass And High tides.

I like Knopler. I'll throw another in. Joan Jett and the Blackhearts although she did finally make it into the rock&roll hall of fame. Gal had to make it on her own as no one would sign her and she stared her own record label.

There were a lot of one hit wonders from not very good bands too. Iron Butterfly comes to mind.

Deep Purple was pretty good but only had one hit. Same with Blue Oyster Cult...

Deep Purple had a few hits. Hush, Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Lazy, Knocking at Your Back Door.

Deep Purple for sure was an underrated band that I listen to when I was a teenager. I had their album in 8 track. I liked Blue Oyster Cult's couple of hits also. "Burnin For You", and "The Reaper". Black Sabbeth was another band that I listened to some, that wasn't all that popular. Nazareth was another band that comes to mind, having only a couple hits. Love Hurts, and Hair Of The Dog.

Black Sabbath is extremely underrated. They influenced so many good rock bands too.

they were very popular when i was in school and ozzie still can whale even though if you listen to him talk youd think he was brain dead. I dont really think they would qualify for underrated buy nazareth would surely qualify. Deep purple was actually real popular back in the day too. I think smoke on the water about set records for being on the top 10 list and was probably played at every high school dance in the country in the early 70s
