Is it possible/practical to hook an antenna?
« on: May 10, 2021, 06:00:20 PM »
I got a Midland XT511 base camp radio to go with my Motorola hand held GMRS/FRS, however I can't figure out how to hook up an external antenna. Is it possible or practical to do that? If so, how do I get started? Thanks, gene

There's an FCC rule that states an FRS capable radio cannot have a detachable antenna. A GMRS radio can however but since your radio does both it looks like your antenna is fixed. The only way to add an external antenna to your radio would be to open up that radio and solder in a BNC or other type of RF connector to connect to an external antenna.
