The problem is cat owners don't think they should have to keep control of the damn things. If they would then the cats wouldn't be using neighbors yards for cat boxes. Feral cats is one thing but neighbors cats should be held accountable. If not just shoot em.

Yes
Domesticated animals have been selectively
bred for hundreds or thousands of years by
human intervention, and any misdeeds or
reverting to wild behavior is the fault of humans.
People that let their animals cause problems
for their neighbors or other people are the
worst kind of thoughtless inconsiderate @#$&*@#$%

I would never poison anything no matter how much I hated it unless it caused suffering to me and my family. Killing cleanly is another story entirely...

It works, not any worse than shooting a poor pussy cat.  Or skunks under your house.

Well when you shoot something you kinda know what you're shooting at. When you go to poisoning you don't know who or what you are doing to anything. Big difference as far as I'm concerned. About as cruel and heartless as you can get.

When I trap, I use bait, and a live trap. Mr Browning speaks once, then they exit the trap..

This isn't quite the same as poison but it's along those lines.  Till in a layer of Cayenne pepper into the soil where the cats do their business.  After a case of bung hole burn, they most likely won't come back...  You'll most likely have to reapply it from time to time...

I've tried cayenne pepper Tony. Didn't phase'em. I also bought some rather costly white  powder that was supposed to repel cats. I really didn't seem to slow'em down either.

A .300 Blackout would be my next move.  I have a Handi rifle in that caliber that I load with 86g bullets from a Lee mold meant for a .32 handgun.  With 3g of Red Dot behind them they are very quiet and wickedly accurate at close range.  Like a .22 short with more punch...

Yes river front houses are pretty pricey now. We bought our property between Bullhead city and Mohave valley by the Colorado river in the 70s. Had our house built in the late 70s. Yes it is a dessert climate and no it is not government park. Also because Argent keeps bringing it up I did in fact contact Bill about his constant PM,s to me about you Dee. At least a total of 5 about you're treatment to him. Since then I changed my PM feature to administrators only so I won't hear from him again.

I'll bet it is. I use 22 long CB caps out of a Marlin 39A,  but I live in a neighborhood so I don't need the attention of a wounded cat flopping around in my front yard.
The live trap is very effective, and the varmint is put down while in the trap, so no commotion, or slip ups.
Plus, if I decide to just relocate the critter I can without harm to myself, or the animal.

Thank you for getting this thread back on track. Also agree if you know how to use a common trap it is the most effective way to get rid of varmints. Both like you say relocating the animal or blasting away. Either way is better than poison.

If you didn't live so far away from me I would have s good idea of who is relocating their unwanted cats in my front yard.  ;D

I wish some on here would put on their big boy pants and quit acting like third graders. Lots of uncalled for drama.

Cats can travel a long way and they are the ultimate survivalists. Once upon a time my parents owned a farm about sixty miles as the crow flies from our home place and my father relocated a tomcat to it. It was surrounded by pasture land back in those days and they were over run with pack rats and rabbits so the cat should have had an easy life. The cat evidently didn't care for the lonely life and it took him about five months but he showed up at the back door one morning and other than being a little skinny appeared none the worse for wear. The ultimate "cat came back" episode that I'm acquainted with. I have no idea how an animal can go for a truck ride that involved about 75 miles and find it's way back to where it started.

We humans poison rats and other pest vermin?  The first of this thread, everyone was saying how much they hate straying cats? Shoot em, gun em down, ok go for it lol. Makes no difference to me, we don't get them here. Foxes yes, but they really aren't a problem. Try to handle a pissed off skunk in a cage, go ahead, shoot it
lol.

Skunks are benign creatures unless bothered. Leave them alone and they will go about their business of finding food and reproducing. They do tend to dig little holes to get at bugs but I can live with that. There is one or more in my area right now as I find skunk evidence laying around regularly. If you are a chicken fancier you will find them troublesome as they are fond of chicken as a food source.

I have caught a many a skunk in my live traps when I was actually after a cat.
A live trap has a blind spot, so I just ease up from that side, ease the trap into a black trash bag, and put it in the back of my pickup.
When I get to the country, I slowly open the trap door, lock it open with a snaffal hook, pull the bag back where he can see the door, and back off.
He'll come out if he hasn't taken a nap, and wonder off. I've never had one spray.

Only thing about critters running willy
nilly around your property is that they
often as not are bringing unwanted
trouble with them. Urine, feces, damage
to ornamental and vegetable gardens,
damage to vehicles and houses, etc.
The roof and hood of my truck stays
scratched up and covered with muddy
cat prints.  All the roaming animals
here bring ticks and fleas and the associated
diseases. Their waste attracts other
pests and insects and can have diseases
In the waste. I've had 2 overhead phone
lines destroyed by squirrels. Vehicle
wiring chewed.  Flower beds dug up.
Vegetables ruined. Vegetable plants
dug up. Cats and dogs yowling during
the wee hours and causing other
animals to join in the ruckus.
Something many never mention is
that if the country continues on the
downward slide, many may be fairly
dependent on home vegetable gardens
as during the depression as my parents
were.  The choice would be clear
about whether to allow roaming pets
or wild animals to destroy something
you may be depending upon for a meal
and might make the difference between
eating or not eating. Me,  I'll be piling
up the dead animals. If things get bad
enough,  I might be researching recipes
for cute lil pets.  I already know how to
clean and cook squirrels and wabbits.

Bottom line is to be considerate and
keep your animals restrained and
not allow them to eff with the neighbors
and don't blow a gasket when poopsie
goes missing. Shoulda kept her in
your own yard

This reminds me of a story a guy told me when he lived in San Francisco after the Vietnamese moved in, no stray cats or dogs, no ducks, songbirds, or deer in the park either.

That's a good reason not to eat at an oriental food place. But seriously, have not seen a quail on my place in over two years, cannot tell you how many feral cat s I have killed. Shoot them year round, but can't tell if I have made a dent in the population.

About 30 years ago a neighbor in the Texas Panhandle had given his little girl a female siamese kitten. We thought nuthin about it other than it started crappin in our flower beds when it was grown.
We had a glassed in front porch, and one day the cat ran in, and jumped into Linda's lap. As I turned around it proceeded to attempt to claw Linda's eyes out, and did scratch her face up pretty bad.
I caught the cat, threw it into my pickup, and started driving. Probably about 30 miles later I got ou with my shotgun in the middle of nowhere, but because it belonged to my neighbors little girl I couldn't shoot it, and just let it go.
About 13 months later, I looked out the front door, and there it was back.
The next ride it went on, it didn't come back.
