The Biden-Harris administration is trying to spend its way out of the migrant crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, a House Republican alleged Saturday.
U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of New York reacted to news that Biden had redirected more than $2 billion toward migrant shelters holding 45,000 unaccompanied children – and away from U.S. taxpayer needs such as COVID-19 testing.
"The president singlehandedly created this crisis and is now misplacing billions in taxpayers’ money," Malliotakis told the New York Post.

Her criticism came on the 53rd day that Vice President Kamala Harris has neither visited the border nor faced reporters at a news conference about her role as President Biden’s border-crisis manager, which she assumed in late March.

To help finance the migrant shelters, Biden appointee Xavier Becerra, the secretary of Health and Human Services, has pulled $850 million out of a fund meant to replenish the Strategic National Stockpile of items such as medical gloves, ventilators and other equipment needed to address the coronavirus pandemic, Politico reported Saturday.
Just days earlier, Becerra had asked a congressional committee for $905 million in separate funding for the stockpile, the report said.
"The answer to every problem is not to throw money at it," Malliotakis said, according to the Post.
She advised Biden instead to rescind his border policies, reinstate those of former President Trump and pursue crackdowns on cartels and smugglers in the border region.

Meanwhile, Vice President Harris continued to prepare for her planned visits to Mexico and Guatemala next month to address what she has described as the "root causes" of migration – such as poverty, government corruption and natural disasters.
Republicans and even some Democrats have countered that Harris should also make time to visit the migrant shelters and speak with Border Patrol personnel who have been struggling to deal with the migrant surge since Biden and Harris took office.
