Anyone Know what Size/Thread, the Holes in the Side of the Savage 340 Receiver are?

   Numrich shows parts for early and late models.  This is for the early one, if it makes a difference.

  Not to dissuade you from your scope plan, but in such a case, I would consider a small, quality red dot, mounted upon the receiver, forward of the bolt.

  Often we hear complaints of the usual mount, not placing the scope directly over the bore.

Generally speaking, most all scope mounting screws are either 6-48 or 8-40. It's pretty easy to tell the difference by looking. Anything other than those two are very rare.
