IG: the Ottomans chose the wrong side, when they opted for the Austro-Hungarian combine. Then they erred again as they chose the tripartite pact of WW2.
As far as I know, the Tripartite Pact was signed by Italy, Japan, Germany in 1940. The Ottoman Empire was dissolved in 1922.
Nevertheless, your point about backing the wrong side is well taken
Now it may be you who is mixing metaphors..
Obviously, the Ottoman was beyond moribund by 1940. When referring to the choice of the wrong side, I was referring to the Muslim nations in a general sense.
I believe there is little doubt that they are driven by their extreme hatred of Israel, ever since the days of Isaac and Ishmael.
In (Gen 16:11,12NIV) God tells Hagar;
11 The angel of the Lord also said to her:
“You are now pregnant
and you will give birth to a son.
You shall name him Ishmael,
for the Lord has heard of your misery.
12 He will be a wild donkey of a man;
his hand will be against everyone
and everyone’s hand against him,
and he will live in hostility
toward all his brothers.” As we well know, that was written about 4,000 years ago, and it still holds true. Ishmael's descendants can't even get along with one/another.
This leads many to believe this current stage in history and with the prominence of the Arab/Israeli struggle, points to something much deeper than politics..something SPIRITUAL !
Perhaps WE are now to make choices...
