A standoff in Texas that lasted nearly 11 hours ended early Thursday with a suspect being taken into custody after three police officers suffered gunshot wounds, according to reports.

The officers in Flower Mound, outside Dallas, had been shot while responding around 7 p.m. Wednesday to a call of a suicidal person, police said.

After the officers were shot, the situation soon developed into a standoff – with the suspect barricading himself inside a residence and a police SWAT unit gathering outside.

The suspect, who was not identified, was ultimately detained but details were not immediately clear, KXAS-TV of Dallas reported.

Two of the wounded officers were taken to a hospital in stable condition and the third officer was cleared at the scene. The two hospitalized officers were later released, police said after midnight.

Officers exchanged fire with the suspect but didn't make contact with him, police said. SWAT and a crisis intervention team were on the scene of the standoff attempting to negotiate with the barricaded man believed to be alone in his house by early Thursday morning, the local Cross Timbers Gazette reported.

The department thanked the public for the "outpouring of support, kind thoughts, and prayers," an updated 1:30 a.m. release said, adding all three wounded officers are "doing well."

"We are still working toward a peaceful resolution to this incident," the release said.

The suspect had been forced to give his guns to the police department over a previous separate incident but the weapons were returned last month, WFAA reported.

Flower Mound is a community of around 76,000 residents, about 29 miles northwest of central Dallas.
