Lynyrd Skynyrd Endangered Species is an outstanding cd (my personal fave Skynyrd tunes).  Hey! I thought this was a trash talking thread topic.  ;)  Oh well, to each, his  own

I agree completely. Simple Man was and is my favorite Skynyrd song. I also put Tuesday's Gone up there with Simple Man.

What is the basis for judgement, for rating over or under? Seems to be just what we like or don’t like. I had a friend of many years, now passed on, who would not have included any of these bands - good or not - he never listened to rock and roll. I think that his “newness” stopped with Harry James.

Music is highly subjective so there's really no wrong or right answer here but my own criteria for overrated is record sales/media attention & radio play over the years vs. actual musical talent. That's why I picked the Rolling Stones. In my opinion their talent level doesn't match their acclaim. I say this as a musician myself who likes some songs by The Rolling Stones. I just think overall they've gotten way too much praise and attention for being just an average rock band in my opinion. I'm not saying they're bad, just overrated.

Someone mentioned that it has a lot to do with promotion which I agree with. If you promote a band enough even bad bands can make serious money and get lots of attention.

You guys are definitely on point with Springsteen, I never understood the fanfare for him.

I already said that. Thanks fot agreeing with me. Personal preference is why we have all kinds of music and all kinds of products to choose from. It would be a dull world if there were only one of each thing to choose from or listen to.

Absolutely! I have always thought about firearms in that way. Just look at how many choices we have in buying just say a personal defense firearm, and its all because people don't like the same thing.  Same as in music. If everyone just liked rock music, there would never be any other genres.

I'm a pretty awful singer but I can actually sing Hendrix songs so he definitely wasn't a good singer. His guitar playing and the rest of the band made up for it though.

I'll acknowledge that Dylan was a lyrical genius but his music is unlistenable to me. I like to listen to other musicians play songs that he wrote though.
