I've been Doing Some Tractor Work
« on: June 05, 2021, 09:57:50 AM »
I have a customer friend who has a cabin 50 miles from me, every summer he hires me to do all kinds of tractor work there.  There's LOTS of work there that he wants done, but so far I've just been rotary cutting.

Here I am, all loaded up ready to go,

and it will take several days to cut all that he wants cut, but here's a start,

  Anyway, here's the cabin,

and as you can see, I have a LOT more cutting to do!

I'm sure you are looking forward to doing the mowing. I never considered mowing with a brush hog work. I find it to be a pleasant pastime.

My brush hog has a quite high "tip speed", so it mows grass pretty good.  BUT, this rough ground, so a finish mower is out of the question, plus I've been taking out quite a few white pine tree's with the mower too...

I have to say though, doing anything day after day becomes work, even tractor driving...

It's about the only time I have
any serenity any more.
As long as my cheeks hold out,
I could go for hours and days
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

White pines grow like weeds where I live.

Speaking of white pines I have a number of them around my place, and they are around 100 feet tall, and very straight.  I believe they were planted here in the 40's by FDR's CCC. I have had some of them come down, but it is truly amazing how they can handle high winds. There have been a few very high winds here over the years, and I wonder what keeps them from coming down or snapping off. Its amazing how much bend they have in high winds.

We also have a lot of white pines all around here here, they come up all over most any well drained spot.  I like them and I've planted a lot of them here on my place.

I mill quite a few of them into construction lumber, as they make great lumber,

White pines are definitely great for lumber, it's the most common product at all the lumber mills around here.

Lots of work, but I could only imagine the satisfaction of making your own lumber. You sure don't seem to mind a full days work!!!!!!!

For 8 years I transported a tractor 535 miles one way, across three states, to "have fun", bush hog, disc, plant, and cover seed for five days on 25 acres of a 305 acre tree farm, in sun and heat of August, as wildlife food plots, then return there, sans tractor, in late October to hunt those same fields.  It was the hardest work I ever loved.

It's even more work when you go to the woods, cut the trees down, cut out and skid the logs out, and get them loaded up.

Here's a load ready to pull home,

I enjoy it, as long as I can work at my own speed.  lol

AGCO, I have three of them, they have been very good tractors for me.

With the loads at the mill, it's time to wash the logs off,
