2022 Ford Maverick compact pickup revealed with hybrid power and $19,995 price
Maverick is Ford's lowest-priced model

2022 Ford Maverick compact pickup debuts
The most affordable Ford is now a pickup.

The 2022 Ford Maverick is a compact pickup smaller than the Ranger.

The 2022 Maverick is an all-new compact pickup launching this fall with a standard hybrid powertrain that’s good for 40 mpg city and 37 mpg combined at a starting price of $19,995, or $21,490 after mandatory shipping charges are added in. That makes it $150 cheaper than the EcoSport subcompact SUV, which recently had its base price increased above $20K.

(Ford)

The Maverick fits into the Ford pickup lineup below the Ranger and is built on the same basic unibody platform as the Bronco Sport and Escape. The hybrid model is rated at 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque and only available with front-wheel-drive, while an all-wheel-drive version powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque will also be offered, with a fully-loaded example priced around $35,000.

(Ford)

Both have 4.5-foot bed with a payload capacity of 1,500 pounds and a four-door cabin that’s a little roomier than the Ranger’s. The hybrid can tow up to 2,000 pounds while the all-wheel-drive model can be equipped with a towing package that can handle 4,000 pounds.

The Mexican-made Maverick will be offered in XL, XLT and Lariat trims. An FX4 off-road package can be added to the last two of those that includes all-terrain tires, a specially tuned suspension, underbody protection, hill descent and a traction control system with extra terrain settings.

(Ford)

The bed has a liner with various tie-downs, screw holes and wood plank slots for custom cargo configurations, plus accessible 12 volt wiring, an optional 110 v outlet and cubby compartments on XLT and Lariat models.

(Ford)

Inside, there is a storage area under the rear bench seat that’s tall enough to fit a volleyball and a slot at the rear of the center console that can accommodate swappable accessories like cupholders, bag hooks and a trash bin.

(Ford)

The Maverick has standard emergency brakes and Ford’s Co-Pilot360 driver aid package is available  with adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist and other features.

(Ford)

Ford expects it to appeal to current car and small SUV owners looking for a vehicle with more versatility and durability and will competing for them with the even smaller upcoming Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The base Maverick XL comes with steel wheels.

Reservations are for the Maverick are now being accepted with deliveries scheduled to begin this fall.

little trucks dont do anything for me personaly and especially if they have a socialist sewing machine motor. Looks like one of those fake honda trucks. Bet the college age girls are going to be standing in line especially with that electric motor. . one positive thing might be its made in mexico and will keep a 1000 mexicans on there side of the border. Im sure if they built the factory here with biden nut case regime in power they wouldnt give a single job to white middle class americans anyway.  Sorry but that aint no truck. Its a suv el camino. Might as well buy a trailer for your car.

Fake Honda truck? I own one and it's better considered a personal vehicle with a bed, never really meant to be a work/hunting/fishing truck. it'll carry my bikes, lumber and most anything I need to pick up when I go into town. And actually, in 2017, when I bought mine, Ford and Honda were the most american made trucks in the country; based on where they were built (Alabama), where the engine was built, where the transmission was built, the amount of american made parts used and the impact on the american economy. If anyone buys one expecting to mud bog or crawl rocks with it, they didn't do their homework. It's a good personal vehicle.

There's a whole lot of people
that would be better served with
a vehicle like that instead of
driving the little toy cars with
no cargo space, and those on
the other side of the coin that
drive a 1 ton four wheel drive
diesel truck for a city commuter
and grocery getter vehicle.
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

It's only an extra $15,000 for the all wheel  drive option.  ::)

i guess alot has to do with where you live and your life style. Id say up here full sized trucks probably are 75 percent of the new vehicles sold. We have WINTER and many of us haul big toys boats and firewood and actually use them. Also if i was to get hit or run off the road in a snow storm id sure feel better with my chances driving something with a real frame under it. Yup there a pain to drive around in a city but then i dont go to any citys. If all i need to haul could be hauled in one of those little things id stick it in the back of my jeep. Id say im not in the minority either. Even in the south where there is no winter they outsell cars and suvs by a long shot. So someone sure seems to think there practical. Ive had a full sized truck since my first new one in 77 and wouldnt be without one. It hauls what i need hauling. Rides as well as any car. Gets as good of fuel milage as a car did 10 years ago and as good as most suvs do today. Its like i said safer and although there not the cheapest thing on the lot they hold there value so much better they probably dont cost alot more to own in the long run. Like is said before. My guess is 75 percent of those little things will be sold to people in citys or college age girls. If its all you need then buy one. Its your money but it sure wouldnt hold up to what i do with my trucks. Id sure like to see one pull my 22 foot boston whaler or haul a cord of firewood. It could probably do it but i wouldnt want to be driving it. My guess too is if you attempted it you wouldnt get any better fuel mileage then my big truck. My guess is they will sell a bunch of them in the first year or two then it will fade into the sunset just like all the other little trucks have.

Right, and I'm sure someone buying this truck would be paying the extra 15K for the AWD option, because I doubt it would go anywhere in snow, mud, or even wet grass. I suppose if you live south and never take it off asphalt it would be fine.

In my opinion the Maverick is an ugly truck, but to each his own.

All car companies are having to reach the "manditory" fuel gas mileage.  Hybrids are the only way to do that, or electrics.  So they are all going to offer hybrid everythings and electric everythings to make their corporate "fuel mileage" average at or above the government mandated mileage.

funny add in the 15k for 4x4 and an entry level one of theses is right with the price range of a colorado and its got a frame and can actually haul at least a fair sized trailer. 15k for 4x4 on a 20k truck is robbery. I hope the buyers realize there spending about  5 times what it cost in any other truck.  .

Yeah, I called em yuppy trucks once upon a time, then I got older and found a purpose for a nicer vehicle I could still use. I owned, prior to the Honda, a Dodge that I used the crap out of building my house. Carried about anything you could think of in it. Once I was settled, retired and had no need for hauling crap around in that beater, it was nice to have a clean road worthy vehicle. No parading, just a personal vehicle.

I just can't understand why someone wants a 4-door pickup with a 4 foot bed!  I'm going to keep my 1996 F-150 4x4 indefinitely.

A new 5 liter is a lot cheaper than one of these open back station wagons.

I agree, the extra 15K for AWD is basically mandatory on a lightweight, front wheel drive, unibody POS like this. What a turd.

Actually a Subaru Outback has more ground clearance, and has as much cargo space as this pickup. Plus the Outback has more leg room and head room.

I bet he does. You can get a base model Outback that comes with a lot of options, and has one of the best AWD systems put in any car.  For around 27K.

Really can't go by Ford Chevy and Dodge being American made anymore. Honda and Acura actually have the most vehicles that are in the top 10 American made car index.  Everyone thinks that since the Ford F-150 is the number one selling truck that its American made. When actually it is around 13th on the American made car index, because so many of its parts are made in other countries.
I have a friend that always ribbed me for buying a Japanese made car compared to a so called American made car.  He had bought a new dodge pickup one year, so I had him look at the vin number to see where his truck was built. It was built in Mexico.

In the first quarter of 2020,  50.1% of subarus bought here were built here.  GM on the other hand, had 48.4% of the cars bought here, that were built here.  The Outback I own was built in Lafayette Indiana.  So no such thing as Ford, GM, and Dodge, being actually American made anymore.

I bought a new Chevy Silverado a couple years ago, it was made in Indiana, all the major parts like the motor, tranny ect.. were made in the USA.

I bought my first new pu in 1972, I've been buying them right along, but so far this is the best truck I've ever owned.  AND right now I own all three, Chevy, dodge and a ford.  I will NEVER buy another dodge, yeaaa they are still dodges!

When I think back to the some times "gutless", rough riding gas hogs of the past, that had their own share of problems, I can't imagine why I would go back!!

I figured out what I wanted in a new pu, (std. cab, 4x4, power windows/locks, HD towing, locking diff, plow prep, V8, and a few other things) then I went on line to find out if any were around.  I did find a few and went to those dealers to "deal" for the best price.

With the factory incentives going on at the time, I bought a NEW Silverado for 29k, yeaaa they had 50 and 60k pickups there, and those are the prices that keep being repeated here, you just don't have to pay them!!

IF you don't know how to get a decent deal on a new pu, that's not the dealers fault, it's yours!  lol

This article has a ranking for the trucks made in America taking all things into consideration.

https://pickuptrucktalk.com/2020/06/american-made-index-how-american-is-your-truck/

DM you are lucky to get a Silverado that was mostly made in America. GM is Mexico's biggest auto manufacture, and around half of the silverado's are produced in Silao Mexico.

Not going to be able to do that right now.  Chip shortages have resulted in crazy prices for new trucks AND used ones.  Just saw a 2007 Silverado with 150,000 miles on it and the guy is asking $17,500 for it.  Insane.

The chip shortage is about over, the plant in Japan that makes them is back up to 100%, and there are still some less popular NEW trucks on the lot.  I saw three single cabs sitting at a Chevy dealer a couple days ago...

Folks want their trucks "yuppied" up quite a bit more than mine is, so the trucks sit longer...

Going to be a while yet.  The automakers don't have them and they are way behind on manufacturing and demand is high.  I'm guessing it'll be nearly a year before things are back to normal.
