CBS anchor excuses Walgreens shoplifter in viral video: 'You're getting probably something you need'
Tony Dokoupil: 'I mean, you're not getting rich off what you take from a Walgreens'
By Brandon Gillespie | Fox News

Media top headlines June 16
"CBS This Morning" co-host Tony Dokoupil gave a perplexing excuse Wednesday for a man seen in a viral video stealing multiple items at a San Francisco Walgreens before exiting the store on a bicycle.

Dokoupil claimed the man was probably getting something he needed and suggested that nothing should have been done to stop the crime as it was taking place.

"So crime is never justified of course," Dokoupil said after CBS' Vlad Duthiers played the video of the theft. He was interrupted by co-host Anthony Mason, saying, "I will say that I think they could have made a little better effort to stop that bicycle. I mean you could have disrupted that bike."

"Well, I mean, I don't know," Dokoupil said, appearing to question the need to stop the shoplifter. "You don't need to be a hero over some toothbrushes or whatever it is."

All of Dokoupil's co-hosts suggested various ways the perpetrator could have been stopped by the security personnel witnessing the crime being committed. Dokoupil, however, seemed to be the only one willing to excuse the theft.

SAN FRANCISCO POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION BLASTS FAR-LEFT DA OVER WALGREEN THEFTS

"That reads also as an act of desperation. I mean, you're not getting rich off what you take from a Walgreens, you're getting probably something you need. I don't know the details of that particular case," he said.

"I mean, a bag full? They looked like hair products … which are valuable, and he's filling his bag full of them," Duthiers said.

Co-host Adriana Diaz confirmed that the stolen products were indeed hair products.

"Now try lifting items from your local CBS station … since they're supportive," Newsbusters executive editor Tim Graham tweeted in response.

That sounds like our district attorney and
former blm police chief
They make excuses for criminals too.
The former police chief publicly said
that criminals (black criminals) were
forced to commit crimes

In California it's LEGAL to steal up to a certain amount. I think it's perhaps $500 or maybe $1000. Anything below that amount it is legal to steal there.

There's lots of stores in this area
that are shoplifted pretty much
daily, and nothing gets done.
A lot of the long time stores boarded
up and left the area.
Not much left besides the bad place
and a few mexican oriented grocery
stores. The only saving grace is
the availability of cheap tortillas
and beans and such

By trying to say that criminals are just stealing what they need is nothing more than justifying lawlessness and theft.  I guess the welfare check isn't enough.

Time for you to move. Problem is. Where? Our world is going to crap.

I have a place to go, but my problem right
now is lack of funds. In the interval between
buying the place and attaining my goal of
paying it off ASAP, many of the adjacent
vacant properties have been resold and
developed by out of staters that moved
from some of the more liberal states.
They've driven the price of rural property
in this region through the roof and beyond.
I made a mistake in assuming I'd bought
enough property for a buffer zone around
me. Now there's a house on 3 out of 4
compass points 200 yards distant

A lot of what's going on here
that people don't see and those
that do see won't talk about is
these border jumpers that don't
pay any taxes or have any insurance
and their spouses get free everything
and all their food and expenses
are free get to save 10 times the
cash assets that a law abiding
taxpayer citizen does, and they
go out and pay cash for a nice
property.  Nobody wants to do
anything to rectify it because of
the money that changes hands

I'd guess that everyone who steals, at some level, makes the judgement that they "need" the item or $ it will bring them  more than who ever owned it before. Even someone who steals a pen from the office or the bank or wherever.

It sounded like you were in California, then you added "out of staters that moved from some of the more liberal states" and that just blew my mind.

At my bank they will give you a pen if you ask for one.  It's all part of their advertising program.  Mostly likely if a pen has a company name and info on it, they want people to take them to help spread the word about their business.

Taking a free pen is no where near the same level as shop lifting.

Merchandise that is purchased with businesses
names and logos are written off as advertising
and are meant to be given away
Not theft at all if they hand you a pen or a
coffee mug or nail clippers with the company
logo and name and such.
Years back a lot of my vendors would give
away lighters until the politically correct
crowd decided giving away a lighter would
facilitate smoking

I remember when every store would give away matches with the store name on them.  I don't think I've seen a book of matches with a business name on them in at least 20 years.

When I got my motorcycle shop back in 1981, I was so thrilled the first time I got to give away pens with my shop name on them.  I still remember the phone number after all these years...  Some where I still have a hand full of those dried up old pens.

So, CBS figures the thief needed the articles...  Well, then CBS can go ahead and pay for all such stolen articles across the country !

Nope
As far as I'm aware, I've only had one
ancestor in California, and he was only
there during the gold rush after he'd
fought against mexico , then returned
here.  The rest have been here since
this was still a republic before it became
part of the United States

   More leftist logic;

CBS  anchor excuses Walgreens shoplifter in viral video: 'You're getting probably something you need'
Tony Dokoupil: 'I mean, you're not getting rich off what you take from a Walgreens'

How stupid can they be?  So some thug beats an old lady to death,.

I guess this dimwit dude would say.  ....... " It's not like he beat 4 or 5 to death!"

Personally, I'm shocked that businesses are fleeing California in droves! Realistically, if you can't go after people for less than 500$, 1000$, and there's a growing"you owe me everything I want" crowd,, your losses front theft are quickly going to surpass your profits!

Unless and until the FNN Talking Head and lier unlocks his personal residence doors, we should ignore the Networks and let them hear the sound of our silence.  Tolerance and legislative protection for looting is further proof of liberal swiss cheese for brains.  Looters here get shot...as it should be.

The post about stealing pens reminded me of my Dad, a joker like his Dad. He had a Texaco station and bought pens for the advertising value. He had "Stolen from Johnson's Texaco" printed on them. Some tried to bring them back, all laughed when it was explained that it was a joke. I have one left, packed somewhere, dried up for sure since Dad closed the station to go back to school in 1961.

BANG FLOP enough of those punks and the crap will cease and desist. I'd love to see these abused businesses lock up and move out into a decent neighborhood, then let to people have to travel several miles to get what they need when they refuse to help protect the businesses. Maybe even post a dead punk count on the front door.

We are in a home buying/selling bubble right now.  Real estate is also selling high in states where people are leaving, I think it is a form of madness.  My son's photography/videography/drone business, illustrates it every day.
Houses up for sale here in NY alone are ridiculous.  A house for instance, offered at $340K, attracts multipul buyers, bidding against one another.  It may end up selling for $420K..

Some folks figure.."wow, I can get premium price for my house right now..I better sell!  ..But if you must turn around and buy another..you could lose much too!

If one owns a vacation home, perhaps they could sell while the price is up, then wait out the market in the vacation home. Or, if they are selling off completely and going into a retired living apartment, selling now may work out well for them.
